I just can’t help it, they’ll always own my heart, they’ll always be my number one. Obviously I have other ships I love and think, from a storyline and writing POV, they are so much better BUT I think those are two separate things; one thing is a beautiful and well written story and another is having such a burning passion, so natural and such a wonderful chemistry. Those two loved each other when no one ever did, when they were being themselves and not when it was convenient. They were always there for each other when they needed it the most, when no one understood them, they just knew what the other was thinking without saying too much; they made each other happy like no others, when one of them was in danger they were ready to risk their life, they missed each other when apart and did everything they could just to make the other feel better. It wasn’t all roses and rainbow, they weren’t cute and fluffy and they fighted a lot, but their story was real and their journey was ‘lived’ moment by moment, in rough times and good times. They really made me feel so proud to ship them and gave me so many satisfactions like no other ships did or does. I will forever miss them.

By virtue of being caged together, in a way, they were forced to intimacy. That has an effect on a human being, to face your worst nightmare has an effect on you, which is unsettling and unnerving and strips you bare. I feel that is a huge part of how Kate became vulnerable enough to cry out that she loves a man and actually offer him her kiss, instead of letting him kiss her. I think because she was stripped so bare, when Sawyer says, ‘I was trying to give you hope,’ the idea that in all of this hell he was trying to protect Kate broke her down. It opened her up to offer him this little nugget of love, which was her kiss. Even after she did it, he asks, ‘What was that for?’ and she says, ‘I don’t know,’ when clearly she knows. Obviously, the actual answer is, ‘I love you, and I don’t know how to say it because I am afraid to say it.’ He is so much like her that when she says that, he hears, ‘I love you,’ and then kisses her back.
