Not sure about anyone else but I re-read all my favourite AO3 comments when I’ve had a rough day so if you’ve ever taken the time to write a deep, funny, or just kind comment, thank-you.
i just got this comment over on twitter and honestly i think this is one of my favorite things that has ever been said to me about writing

ASSIGNMENTS DUE NOV 15th
Hello everyone! We can’t believe that in less than 48 hours the creation period for GetoNana Exchange will be over! The mods were just talking about how wild it is that we started this with an interest check in July!! Now it’s November? Boy, how time flies. But we owe it all to you guys for making this such a great success (and for not forcing us to deal with any big drama! Even bigger thanks for THAT). We’re so glad we could be a place for GetoNana enjoyers to come together and create!
Below is a time line of the last few important dates for the end of the exchange:
- November 15th - Assignments Due! We haven’t set an exact time. Feel free to use every minute of November 15th in every time zone if you need to.
- November 16th & 17th - We will be in contact to let you know your posting date. Don’t tell anyone what it is! For those of you here on this discord I’m just gong to DM you a quick message, so be on the lookout.
- November 19th - Mods will post a message about the posting process and what to expect.
- November 20th - 26th - POSTING WEEK! - Please remember that this is an anonymous exchange, don’t reveal which gift is yours, and don’t out other creators if you recognize their style.
- December 1st - Creators will be revealed! Everyone is free to promote their work as theirs from this point on.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or if you need help with getting your gift posted to the AO3 group, feel free to contact a mod here on Discord, or our other social media accounts.
Thanks again to all of you for making this such a fun event so far, the best part is yet to come!

the under-praised backbone of any fandom:
- fan wiki editors
- fan wiki editors who move the wiki off of fandom.com and to an independent host, especially
- transcript writers
- image description writers
- fic rec list curators
- translators
- everyone who archives an ephemeral ARG or website-based lore dump
- everyone who archives and preserves related media in general, for that matter
maybe your fanfic doesn’t have to change someone’s life maybe it can just brighten someone’s day for a bit
He’s so pretty… I want him to be grievously injured
what they don’t tell you about writing is AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHH!!!
Tbh I think fandom generally needs to get better at sitting with the uncomfortable fact that a story/fanwork/meme/whatever can hurt one person and help another
This is why I think “tag warning” culture is kinder and more constructive than cancel culture / “no problematic content” culture. One size does not fit all, but if we learn to be more aware of the fact that the same thing can be emotionally validating or cathartic to one person and upsetting to another, and pick up a general mindset of thinking before we post, “what might people need a heads up for in this content?”, we grow more compassionate, more thoughtful, and more understanding of the differences in people’s experiences.
