Morris Berman: "I Am Quite Sure That We Are Looking Into the Abyss"

For this week's (almost) Fourth of July Doomsday Sermon, I read from Chapter Eight of social critic Morris Berman's spot-on analysis of the state of the US, titled "Dark Ages America: the Final Phase of Empire." If you would like to support Humptydumptytribe, here are three ways you can do just that. What's the significance of Independence Day? I see tumblr go crazy over it but I'm unsure of its history. Cheers.
Well if you are from the United States it is supposed to commemorate the day the U.S. declared its independence from the British empire. In reality it meant white upper class males’ “freedom” to create their own nation-state which would go on to be the the most violent and exploitive country and economy on the planet. For black people it meant continued enslavement, the master just swapped flags. For native peoples it meant intensified and systematic genocide. And for poor whites it meant delusions of exceptionalism. You have to really buy into the myth of America to celebrate Independence Day.
On this July Fourth, understand that we have come Full Circle, back to the historic place where Revolution was necessary to Free American Colonists from Taxation Without Representation!
Welcome To The Corporate States of America!
We are standing on the same precipice, looking out at a Congress who no longer Represent Those They Tax, and Their Legislation Represents Those Who Pay Little Tax, in relation to their Income!, if any at all!
No Longer does the american Citizen and Taxpayer have a voice in actions of their “Representatives” because they no longer believe they represent the Average Citizen; only those Wealthy Enough to Re-Elect them.
The Under-Educated Angry believe that Donald Trump will change this.
The Educated-In-Denial believe that Hillary Clinton will change this.
Understand that Neither Candidate will Change This; both are members of the same Entitled Wealthy Class who have imposed Wealth as the definitive influence upon legislation. The rhetoric of both sides of the Political Isle has been targeted at your Emotions, NOT your Intellect! They are influencing your Vote using the same strategy that Advertisers influence your Purchases.
Do Not Be The Fools The Current Presumptive Candidates Hope You Are!
Only Political Revolution will change America; and the time for that Revolution is NOW! We Have Reached That Point in our Political Evolution, Once Again!
On Independence Day, the stirring words of Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence set the tone. Buried a bit further down, however, is another passage that is somewhat less well-known:
“…the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.”
That line, and America’s subsequent history with Native Americans, goes a long way toward explaining why the holiday largely does not resonate with the United States’ roughly 5.2 million indigenous peoples.
Above, the theft of Native American lands in one gif.
