If anyone on the Left needed a reason why Democratic Socialists can never win the battle against Imperialism, Bolivia should be where the buck stops.
After Democratic Socialist President of Bolivia, Evo Morales refused to give up Bolivia's Lithium resources to Western interests without the profits being shared with the Bolivian people, the US CIA staged a coup against Morales and his Socialist cabinet.
If it weren't obvious to some that this was in fact a CIA staged coup, look no further to the announcement just days after the coup, by Tesla's Elon Musk that he will be opening a new Lithium battery factory in Europe. The stocks for Tesla went up more than 20% after the Bolivian coup, even before Musk's announcement.
The other big mistake by Morales against the Western Imperialist Powers was his Nationalization of the Oil and Natural Gas sectors of Bolivia's Economy.
But the last straw that broke the Imperialist back was a deal announced by Morales to allow China State Industries to mine the Lithium resources in Bolivia in an agreement that would share the profits with the Bolivian Government to pay for new Social Programs, Public Services and educational opportunities for the people of Bolivia.
Morales offered the same deal to Western Corporate interests and they refused to a profit sharing agreement. They insisted they get all the profits from mining Bolivia's resources.
Nothing about any of this is new. The US for more than 200 years has been expropriating Latin American resources, and controlling puppet Governments in Latin America to allow Western Corporate interests to endlessly syphon off those resources without sharing any of the profits with the people in Latin American Countries.
Whenever US Corporate Hegemony has been challenged by those Nations Governments, the US has staged coups.
I cannot even list them all because a list of Latin American coups by US interference would take all day. But just in the last few years, the US has assisted in the ouster of Brazil's Workers Party from power, including the illegal incarceration of the immensely popular Lula Da Silva when it looked like he might be able to win elections. There's been the attempted coup against Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro, and even an attempted assassination of Maduro by the CIA by flying a drone strapped with explosives over him while he gave a speech. When that plot failed, the US Corporate News Outlets claimed the whole thing was a set up by Maduro to solidify his support! That's right, he tried to kill himself with explosives to "solidify" his already high levels of support.
There's also been two coups in Honduras in recent years, including most recently in the middle of Presidential elections when it looked like the corrupt Juan Orlando Hernandez was going to lose, suddenly the computer systems tallying the vote count went down, and when they came back up hours later, suddenly Hernandez was back in the lead and still won by the slimmest of majorities.
So in all of History, the closest thing to a successful Democratic Socialist government winning power through the Bourgeois Democratic Electoral System is in Venezuela, and yet Nicolas Maduro is pilloried all across the world as an Authoritarian Dictatorship despite winning elections in what the Jimmy Carter Foundation claimed was one of the most secure election systems in the world. Nevermind the attempted coups and assassinations.
It becomes more and more clear that Western Imperialism will never allow Socialism to gain a foothold in the world Electorally. There is NO reason to think otherwise. Only Marxism-Leninism offers a way to create Socialism in the world today.
It's clear we need Socialist Revolution within the heart of Imperialism to put an end to Capitalist exploitation and oppression. The Bourgeoisie will stop at nothing to crush any legitimate Electoralism by Socialists within their Bourgeois Democratic Systems. Even with all the odds stacked against us, when we manage to secure power in a Bourgeois Democracy, we are crushed by the Imperialist Powers from without.
There's no reason to support Bourgeois Democracy anymore. As a Socialist you will be called an Authoritarian Dictator no matter how you take power, so the best way to be sure you cannot be crushed fr without is through a Marxist-Leninist Revolution, the consolidation of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat, and the build up of a Revolutionary Army capable of defending the Revolution from Imperialism.
We cannot be so naive as to believe the Capitalists will just allow Socialism to be elected into power peacefully. The Imperialists will stop at nothing to stomp out Socialism whether through coercion or through extreme violence.
We have to be ready and willing to defend a Socialist society through a Dictatorship of the Proletariat. This means completely crushing any and all Counter-Revolutionary forces whether through oppression or violence. We have to be willing to smash the Dictatorship of the Bourgeoisie and all their tools of coercion and violence.
It's time Socialists stopped being naive and powerless in the face of Imperialism!
Marxism-Leninism offers us the opportunity to take power back into the hands of the Working Class, it gives us the chance to determine our own future without the coercion and exploitation of the Bourgeoisie.
When offered the opportunity to take power and determine our own future, or continue to be powerless at the hands of a Ruling Class who's only interested is your own exploitation, take that chance, take back power, take back your ability to determine your own future and decide how you should get to work and live!
The Global Capitalist System is on the verge of collapse. We will soon have an opportunity to take that power back in a way we haven't had in over a Century. Whether you believe me when I say that or not, if and when the time comes to do something to determine your own future and the future of Workers everywhere, don't sit back and wait for someone else to do something. Take back your power.
But in the meantime, you have the ability to join and organize with other workers, to learn Revolutionary theory, to help educate and raise the consciousness of the Proletariat so when the opportunity comes to strike, we will not hesitate.
Bolivia should be the last example any of us should need to see why we need to get ready to overthrow the Capitalist System and the Bourgeoisie for good. Don't sit your hands and wait for change to come to you. Study now and prepare for Revolution.
The indigenous-socialist project accomplished what neoliberalism has repeatedly failed to do: redistribute wealth to society’s poorest sectors and uplift those most marginalized. Under Evo and MAS leadership, Bolivia liberated itself as a resource colony. Before the coup, Evo attempted to nationalize its large lithium reserves, an element necessary for electric cars. Since the coup, Tesla’s stocks have skyrocketed. Bolivia rebuked imperialist states like the United States and Canada by taking the path of resource nationalism to redistribute profits across society.
This was Evo’s crime.
“My sin was being indigenous, leftist, and anti-imperialist,” Evo said after being coerced into resigning this week.
His replacement, Jeanine Añez Chávez, agreed. “I dream of a Bolivia free of satanic indigenous rites,” the opposition senator tweeted in 2013, “the city is not for the Indians who should stay in the highlands or the Chaco!!!” After Evo’s departure, Chavez declared herself interim president while holding up a large bible, though she failed to get the required quorum in the senate to do so.
Next to her stood Luis Fernando Camacho, a member of the Christian far-right. After Evo’s resignation, Camacho stormed the presidential palace, a flag in one hand and a bible in the other. “The bible is returning to the government palace,” a pastor said on a video while standing next to Camacho. “Pachamama will never return. Today Christ is returning to the Government Palace. Bolivia is for Christ.”
In places where the opposition is strongest, Wiphala flags, symbols of indigenous pride, were lowered and burned. Police officers cut the flags from their uniforms. What were symbolic acts quickly escalated into street-level violence.
MAS members’ houses were burned. Evo’s home was ransacked. Masked armed men began rounding up suspected MAS supporters and indigenous people in the streets, loading them into the back of trucks. A handful of protesters have been killed.
Army generals appearing on television to demand the resignation and arrest of an elected civilian head of state seems like a textbook example of a coup. And yet that is certainly not how corporate media are presenting the weekend’s events in Bolivia.

Frustrated by its defeat in the presidential elections held in the country on October 20 and emboldened by U.S. support, the Bolivian opposition has scaled up its attacks on supporters of the process of change led by President Evo Morales and the Movement Towards Socialism. On November 6, a series of atrocious aggressions against MAS supporters and elected officials were registered in the Cochabamba department.
