sad reality of the fanfic-to-published work economy is that the weirdest people are willing to do it. that's why there's now hundreds of shitty no plot cishet hate-to-love enemies-to-lovers books that are ex reylo fanfic. and it's not even good. that's because the people who wrote book-quality steve/bucky and kirk/spock fic are too normal to think to themselves "i should get this porn published". they're too busy working in local government offices
everyone I am happy to announce that the stevebucky fanfic author I had in mind while writing this post has officially reblogged it.

this passes peer review harder than anything has ever passed peer review in the history of peer review
I go crazy for songs from one genre being rearranged to sound like another genre I eat that right up
Turning a metal song into a deep orchestral ballad? Yes. Turning a bubblegum pop song into a rock song? Love that. Turning a medieval or ancient tune into a modern guitar riff? So nice. Turning an electro pop song into a medieval style flute solo? Amazing.
i have no idea what passes for humor on this site anymore. i feel like i could say shit like "hey what's up guys i'm still trapped in this abandoned grain silo" and it'd get notes.
hey what’s up guys i’m still trapped in this abandoned grain silo
hhhrk. gggrrrg. *changes several core aspects of your personality when you’re not looking*
normally this would infuriate me but I feel uncharacteristically calm and forgivibg
in general i dont think fandom tattoos are a bad idea but i think u need to at least give yourself like a two year buffer from the end of that piece of media before you commit. like if someone told me "yeah im obsessed with hazbin hotel rn so im gonna get a hazbin hotel tattoo" id be like woah okay maybe put a pin in that idea for later. but if someone told me "yeah i read homestuck in its prime and i still love it so im gonna get a homestuck tattoo" id be like well fair enough its been like eight years. if you still like it now you'll probably still have fond memories of it in 20 years. you do you.
employers will try to convince you that you need a "career" and that you need to "network" and make "professional contacts" and this is false. you need to eat treats with your friends and have a silly niche blog on an unprofitable web platform
another cool thing is when you devour a book over the course of a handful of hours and it fucks you up and you just have to lie on the couch feeling like your brain went swimming for too long & only just came up from under the water. art is so good

that some people respond to any well-foreshadowed reveal with “ugh that plot twist was so predictable” proves bad faith criticism has rotted their brains to the point they think it’s bad writing if they can correctly identify information the writers were intentionally giving them
Sometimes the point of the reveal is not to shock you. Sometimes the point is anticipation of the reveal. You know it’s coming, just not when, how, or what the consequences will be. And sometimes that can be so much more interesting than not seeing it coming at all.
the most disorienting thing thats ever happened to me was when a linguistics major stopped in the middle of our conversation, looked me in the eye, and said, "you have a very interesting vernacular. were you on tumblr in 2014?" and i had to just stand there and process that one for a good ten seconds
#i was in a car with a linguist i had never met before the car trip and like half an hour in he looked at me#after i finished describing a geology thing that was happening out the window and asked if i'd ever spent much time on tumblr#the fuckor of it all#and then we spent six more hours driving#it sure does leave linguistic markers! i'm not sure i'm good with it (tags via @thoughtsformtheuniverse)
it is one thing to be a linguist and another to be a linguist who knows enough of 2010s Tumblr to spot one of its enjoyers
I'm not sure what's more concerning here: the idea that the Tumblr vernacular, a principally written idiom, is discernible in spoken communication, or the fact that if you click through to the original post, its contents appear to have been replaced at some point in the last two months with Minecraft YouTuber fanfic.
have you ever shipped something so hard that you become irrationally happy and make a sound akin to steam escaping from a kettle everytime they so much as stand next to eachother
[grandma voice] back in my day, sonny, we called it “squeeing”.

My favorite type of characters are “they’re not dumb but they are a dumbass”
Characters with enough intellect and common sense to clearly and easily grasp that something is a Bad Idea, but with enough chaotic dumbass energy to decide they gotta just go ahead with it anyway are on point.
