One of the best things I’ve learned is to not to be afraid to advocate for yourself. Negotiate your salary. Work your ass off to gain skills that allow you to pivot roles or aggressively push your way into a promotion. Advocate for what you will and will not accept at work and in relationships. Demand (persuasively) for what you want. You have to ask for things, no one will magically read your mind. You have to ask other people to do things for you. Do not allow other people to speak disrespectfully or negatively about you in your presence. Ask thoughtful questions. Speak up when you have something valuable to add. Respectfully disagree with people. Use your voice and innate power to further your own goals and objectives.

I'm cutting my dreadlocks off after I do my homework. This is nerve-wracking because I've had them for two years, but I really need some kind of change. I will let you guys know how it goes.

It took about 5.5 hours to take them out. Two years undone in a matter of 5 hours is crazy, but I'm happy with the change. I missed my natural hair.
