If I had the “perfect” body throughout history, this is what I’d look like.
Mid 2010s-2018 - Big butts, wide hips, tiny waists, and full lips are in! There is a huge surge in plastic surgery for butt implants thanks to Instagram models posting “belfies”. 🍑 Even cosmetic surgery doctors have become IG-famous for reshaping women. Between 2012-2014, butt implants and injections rise by 58%.
Mid 90s-2000s - Big boobs, flat stomachs, and thighs gaps are in. In 2010, breast augmentation is the highest performed cosmetic surgery in the United States. 👙 It’s the age of the Victoria’s Secret Angel. She’s tall, thin, and she’s always got long legs and a full chest.
Early 90s - THIN IS IN. Having angular bone structure, looking emaciated, and super skinny is what’s dominating the runways and the magazine covers. There’s even a name for it: “heroin chic”.
1950s - The hourglass shape is in. ⏳ Elizabeth Taylor‘s 36-21-36 measurements are the ideal. Marilyn Monroe’s soft voluptuousness is lusted after. Women are advertised weight gaining pills to fill themselves out. Playboy magazine and Barbie are created in this decade.
1920s - Appearing boyish, androgynous and youthful, with minimal breasts, and a straight figure is in! Unlike the “Gibson Girl” of the Victorian Era, women are choosing to hide their curves, and are doing so by binding their chests with strips of cloth to create that straight figure suitable for flapper dresses.
1400-1700 The Italian Renaissance - Looking full with a rounded stomach, large hips, and an ample bosom is in. Being well fed is a sign of wealth and status. Only the poor are thin.
Why do we treat our bodies like we treat fashion? “Boobs are out! Butts are in!” Well, the reality is, manufacturing our bodies is a lot more dangerous than manufacturing clothes. Stop throwing your body out like it’s fast fashion.
Please treat your body with love & respect and do not succumb to the beauty standard. Embrace your body because it is YOUR own perfect body. ♥️

My pedantic ass needs to point out that the Gibson girls were an Edwardian beauty standard, not Victorian, but this is a very good and important post.

I grew up in the “big boobs/skinny everywhere else” era.

Funny how women are always expected to hate/modify their bodies according to trend. As if bodies are comparable to clothing trends.

Yet men simply being fit has always been acceptable/ideal.

there’s this moment of awareness for a girl when she realizes her legs (and/or arms, armpits, upper lip…) are unacceptable.

she’s just minding her own business, bopping along, when maybe a classmate starts mocking her for having visible body hair. or she goes to a sleepover and someone points out that her legs look different from all the other girls’. or she walks in on her mom shaving and asks why, and the answer is “because a woman’s body looks nicer this way.” or maybe her mother or sister actually approaches her and says, “looks like it’s time you learned to shave that jungle.”

the point is, the day before that realization, however it happened, the girl didn’t give a shit about her hair. she put on shorts and tank tops without a second thought. she didn’t feel unclean. she didn’t feel like a monster when she looked in the mirror (at least not because of body hair). her hair didn’t stop her from riding a bike or climbing a tree.

only after someone draws her attention to it does she start feeling self-conscious and wanting to remove it. removal, in this culture, is never a choice made free of coercion. it’s never born of a girl’s own naturally occurring desires. the seed of shame was planted in her by someone else (family, friends, bullies, magazines, razor commercials) and chances are that seed will stay with her forever- a sinking realization that her body can be wrong, that she can look ugly or dirty even when clean, that a thing she never even noticed about herself before should be a source of retroactive humiliation.

that feeling is like a scar. every time we look at it, the humiliation and judgment we experienced as kids comes rushing back and the little nasty patriarchal voice in our heads (the same one that says shit like “jesus you’re getting fat,” “ugh why did you think you could pull off this outfit,” “god who would ever want to touch THOSE boobs,” etc) says “ugh, looks like it’s time I shaved that jungle.” and it’s just parroting back what we’ve already been told.

women grow hair on their boobs and their butts and their legs and their arms and their stomachs and their face and really anywhere their genetics decides to have hair and it is perfectly normal what isnt normal is men who have never touched a razor trying to shame women for not looking like a hairless baby

Okay if you can’t fuck with a girl because of:

  • Pubic hair
  • Stretch marks
  • Scars
  • Any other natural occurrence of the female form

You aren’t really worthy of it anyway

Take her as she is because she shouldn’t have to change for you. Go the Hell home fuck boy

reality is girls have stretch marks and instead of shaming and photo shopping people should accept and embrace it.

you have stretch marks from either overeating and rapid weight change  OR you’re not taking care of your skin. either way you’re not helping yourself brush your teeth, wash your hair, wash your ass and rub lotion on it OR you could eat foods that have vitamins for your skin

Or you could just shush and not be so rude about other people. Do you look after yourself perfectly 100% of the time? Would you appreciate people picking at you?

Not to mention you can get stretch marks from growth spurts which have NOTHING to do with your eating habits or lotion usage, etc. Especially when those growth spurts happen at a young age when girls should be worried about going to the mall with their friends or getting on the soccer team or homework and NOT making sure to slather themselves in cocoa butter because God forbid they have stretch marks later on in life.

people are fucking stupid. my boyfriend has stretch marks and he’s the skinniest, most lanky guy ever but he got them from growing taller/growing up. like srsly. there is no cure for stretch marks. oh and did we forget pregnancy? fuck that guy

my epic stretch marks are from going through puberty. hips widening, all that jazz. fuck off.

Anonymous asked:

Being fit is being skinny you idiot, being athletic and flexible is a whole different thing, you don't have to skinny to be athletic but you do have to be skinny to be fit

"Fitness." Merriam-Webster.com. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 28 Dec. 2013. .

I don’t know what prompted you to send me the dumbest message I’ve received in at least 6 months, but nowhere in the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of “fitness” do I find the word “skinny.” Even synonyms for the word “fitness” focus 100% on health attributes as opposed to size attributes. So I’m sorry if you have this deep seeded complex that refuses to allow you to accept that, from all standpoints of medicine, science, and flat out fact, fitness is irrelevant to body size. That really sucks for you that your brain is struggling to let you come to terms with that. However, it is also 100% not my problem.

tl;dr: Blow it out your ass.

It is time for a fucking revolution.

If the fashion industry thrives on newness and novelty then they are failing themselves.

If you want a ‘new twist on a classic style’ I’ve got one for you.

Make a pencil skirt for someone who is 5ft 3.

Make a white shirt that will button over my breasts.

Make a shift dress that doesn’t get ‘nipped in at the waist’.

Make a pair of shoes that won’t aggravate my ankle injury.

Make a ‘nude-coloured’ dress that is dark brown.

Make your plus-sized jeans in actual denim, not some shitty stretch fabric dyed blue.

You want a fresh take on the classics?

Try making your clothes for someone who isn’t six foot tall and a size 6.

For once.

Please.

oh and also make fucking steel-toed boots under the size mens 8 1/2

Make some form-fitting shirts that are thick enough to stop our bras from showing through.

Make sensitive skin-friendly buttons and clasps so we don’t have worry about the metal making us break out in contact dermatitis (that’s a localized rash that can easily become an infection, for the uninformed).

Make a long dress that is easy to go to the bathroom in.

Make a pair of jeans that actually fit in the crotch area instead of putting us at risk of a yeast infection (No “V”).

Make more dress shoes that aren’t heels.

Put more pockets in women’s clothes.

CREATE A FUCKING UNIVERSAL SIZING SYSTEM THAT MAKES SENSE.

Amen to all.
