Adding on to say that not too long ago (okay apparently it was over a year ago, how time flies) I had this experience with basically the entirety of @justlikeeddie's Good Omens fic, which I highly recommend.

I’m curious about the most memorable scene from fanfic by any author – what scene(s) have most stuck in your head?

well, pretty much all of The Quiet Man, because i listen to the podfic a lot, and a lot of The Progress of Sherlock Holmes. also a lot of Truth May Vary, cos i have read it several times. then there are bits of a few others but i would be hard pressed to cite titles off the top of my head.

has anyone else ever had a fanfic that just... haunts them? like it's been months and maybe even years since you read it, but it just lingers with you and you can never truly leave behind the imprint it made on you? and maybe it's just a single line, one sentence that you can't shake off, that takes up residence in your mind and stays there, feeding into your psyche and subtly influencing your brainspace and maybe even your writing or other works?

oh yes! Truth may vary, especially, they live in my mind no matter how long since i last re read. also the men who talk between the words, anh the quiet man.

If Season 5 of Sherlock never happens ... it'll be because they read IvyBlossom's 'The Quiet Man' and decided to leave the God Tier storytelling to the master ...

TQM!!! <3<3<3 i lost count of how many times i listened to the podfic, a few times before s3, and on a more or less continuous loop during s3 (at least once each week between the episodes, plus more afterwards) and as needed since then.

probably my all time favorite, just in terms of the sheer number of times i have listened to it, is fffinnagain reading The Quiet Man by ivyblossom. on ao3 it's in about four big chunks, but i have just discovered it in a one chapter at a time format which is perfect for bedtime story.

which is awesome because each chapter is just the right size for a bedtime story. (i have also lost count of how many times i have listened to the reading on ao3 which is in a few massive chunks)

pretty much any podfic by @gorillazgal86 but especially pray for us icarus, which i am savoring for a second time.

old vines by sevdrag is one of those wips with huge chapters but which i got sucked into early on and have to drop everything to read when it updates.

also a bunch of fics in the good omens rom com group; that go-events tumblr is a real hazard, i mean, gift to fandom. like the tadfield cheese rolling one (=groundhog day).

i also re read Truth may vary, yet again, by amalnahurriyeh. i just want to give that whole fic a big hug i love it so much.
