All illustrations for my Tour de France Johnlock AU Slipstream, which is (finally) complete.

Folks have asked whether this story might get a book treatment like Enigma and The Horse and his Doctor. The answer is yes, although it may take me a while to edit the story and design the book. So watch this space for news.

Today’s the men’s cycling race of Paris-Roubaix, the “Hell of the North”. This seems a good time to remind folks that I’ve written a Johnlock cycling fic, Slipstream, in which the boys even ride some of the (in)famous cobbled passages that are a staple of the Spring Classics such as Paris-Roubaix, such as the Trouée d’Arenberg.

For those interested in an book version of Slipstream, there are very few copies left: https://khorazir.storenvy.com/collections/1851352-illustrated-novels/products/36466203-slipstream-novel

The 2024 Men’s Tour de France starts on Saturday. For those who’d like to read along – and prefer a queer Johnlock version – my fic Slipstream has you covered 🚴🚵‍♀️

***Obligatory Disclosure Post***

This blog and all of its original (ie, non-reblogged) content is part of a work of fiction in support of Fandom Trumps Hate 2023. As a thank you for one individual’s donation to a charitable organization, I am creating a remix—a fanwork based on and reinterpreting another fanwork. That clever person requested content that appeared to be produced by the fans of the main characters in the selected fanfiction story, Slipstream. Please take everything here with the same grain of salt you afford traditional fanfics. This blog’s content will eventually be posted as a work on AO3 as well. Enjoy!

Illustration and teaser for chapter 24, the final full chapter of my Tour de France AU Slipstream (there will also be a short epilogue). The chapter is about two thirds written. If things go well, it’ll be done before the year is over. Here is a short teaser:

Dimly, he remains aware that they’re not alone, that in fact they’re about as public as they possibly could be, that all around them, cameras and mobile phones are recording this kiss for posterity and probably the front pages of most major news outlets. But if anything, this knowledge only emboldens John, makes him hold Sherlock closer and kiss him more deeply. This must be a kiss to end all doubt about their relationship. This isn’t two happy teammates embracing and congratulating one another, this is two lovers having a very private moment in a very public place. He is mine, thinks John fiercely. And I’m his. And you idiots better get your headlines right, because this here, this is who we are. This is who I am. Bisexual and proud, kissing the love of my life for the entire world to see. And the most wonderful thing of all – he is kissing me back, because he loves me as much as I love him.

This is also for this month’s @sherlockchallenge : Catch

Today’s the last stage of the (Men’s) Tour de France, which traditionally ends on Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Here’s what happened right after this stage in my fic Slipstream.

Illustration for chapter 15 of my Tour de France AU Slipstream. The chapter is finished but needs editing and betaing.

Today’s stage of the Tour de France Femmes ended in Albi (and was won by a German rider after an impressive breakaway). Sadly, the pigeon-hunting catfish of Albi weren’t mentioned, but I do feature them in my fic when John, Sherlock and Sherlock’s ex (of sorts) Victor Trevor have a little chat at the banks of the river Tarn.

AO3 stats game

Thanks a lot for the tag, @discordantwords

Rules: Give us the links to your wonderful words with the most hits, most kudos, most comments, most bookmarks, most words, and least words.

Most Hits/Kudos/Bookmarks: Enigma, my WW2/Codebreaker AU set in and around Bletchley Park.

Most Comments: also Enigma

Fourth-Most Kudos: The Summer Boy, the first part of a trilogy of fics set after Season 3 and exploring Sherlock’s past, present and future. The third installment, Easy Scrambling, is currently in the works. Chapter 2 will go to my beta this week.

Most Words: surprisingly not Enigma, but Slipstream, my Cycling/Tour de France AU which has the boys and various other characters as professional cyclists riding the hardest bicycle race in the world.

Least Words: excluding all the little ficlets I wrote to accompany artwork, mainly for the monthly @sherlockchallenge, it’s The Joye of Snacks, a funny little oneshot set around Christmas that was originally part of an advent calendar challenge.

I’ll tag @jrow @calaisreno @a-different-equation @meetinginsamarra @7-percent and whoever else wants to participate.

The Slipstream books have arrived.

I’ve already packed the first batch of preorders (Germany) and put them in the post. The international ones will follow shortly. If you haven’t ordered your copy yet, you can do so following the link below (only 40 copies have been printed). The story will remain available on AO3, of course. I’ve updated all chapters there and replaced them with their recently edited versions.

I’ve started layouting and typesetting the book version of my Tour de France AU Slipstream. The book will have over 500 pages (roughly the same as my Enigma book).

Please let me know if you’re interested in a copy so that I can better calculate the print run. The price will (sadly) be between 30 and 40 US$ because printing costs have risen so much. I won’t be making any profit from these books. The larger the print run, the cheaper the individual books will be.

Slipstream book cover reveal, yay!

I’ve finished typesetting the book. It will be hardcover again and have 552 pages (twelve more than my Enigma book). The files will go to the printers tomorrow. The print run will be forty copies, which will cost 39 US$ each (sorry about that, but it’s the cheapest I can go; I’ll still make a loss because I’ll be giving away some copies, too). I’ll put up a preorder link in my shop tomorrow, so watch this space.

News on my upcoming Slipstream book

With about five more chapters to edit, the book version of my Tour de France AU Slipstream is (slowly) nearing completion. Above is a layout sketch for the binding. I hope to get the book ready for print before the end of March.

However, I got a bit of a shock when I checked what printing is going to cost. The book is going to be comparable to the book version of my fic Enigma, which means hardcover, 17 x 24 cm, over 500 pages printed full colour with at least one illustration per chapter (the Slipstream book will have a map and graphics of altitude profiles for the various stages, too). Prices have risen so much that I’ll have to pay about a third more to get the story printed compared to Enigma, meaning that copies of the book sold at cost would be between 35 and 40 US$ (plus postage, which isn’t cheap for international shipping, either).

Now I wonder whether people would actually be willing (and able) to pay that much. I’m thinking of having between 30 and 50 copies printed. The higher the number, the cheaper the single book will get, but I doubt there’d be demand for more than 50 in total.

So ... if you’re interested in your very own copy of Slipstream and not put off by the price, please let me know so that I can get a better idea of how many copies should be printed. As always, I will give away a few copies, too. And the fic will of course remain avaible on AO3.

Time for fandom things has been scarce lately, but there has been some small progress:

• The drawings of altitude profiles are for the upcoming book version of my Tour de France AU Slipstream. I hope to typeset and design the book and its cover early in the new year.

• The pencil sketches are for a drawing for this month’s @sherlockchallenge

• The final chapter of Lost In A Good Book (which should have been finished about a month ago ...) is almost done and should reach my beta before Christmas.

After almost four years of writing and – again almost – 300k words, my Tour de France Johnlock AU Slipstream is finally complete. This is the illustration for the epilogue, which will be up at AO3 in a short while.

Thanks so much to everybody who has followed this story and kept it alive with feedback. It’s been quite the ride, literally and figuratively, and I’m a bit sad to say goodbye to the cycling boys now. I’ll make a masterpost with all illustrations tomorrow.
