In case anyone who liked The Edinburgh Problem doesn’t know about it, the utterly splendid @lockedinjohnlock-podfics has been podficcing it, and has been posting a chapter weekly. She’s up to chapter 15 now and is doing an amazing job - and she’s an extremely brave woman given the ridiculous number of characters and different accents in the fic!

Thank you for the rec!!  It’s been a very special pleasure to voice such a fabulous fic.  As you say, a cast of thousands but what fun they are!  And a central OC player who is fantasticalness itself!  So rare that we meet a new character who we come to love as much as our two wonderful boys, but here she is. Violet Vernet, Sherlock’s aunt by marriage and only a couple of years older than he.  Sherlock demands that John *not* fall in love with her and whilst John can resist her glorious temptations, we fall for her hook, line and sinker!

Oh my word, a rave from the grave! I can’t believe this is over 8 years old, I had so much fun recording The Edinburgh Problem. It was originally posted as a ‘Sunday Special’ and ended up feeling a bit like The Archers, with folk tuning in every week with a cup of tea and a slice of cake! Good times, indeed.

what is sherlock & co and would a casual bbc sherlock fan who is a less-than-causal johnlock shipper like it??? i keep seeing the fanart on my dash and its piqued my interest

yes! seconding the other notes so far. according to an interview with the writer on the i hear of sherlock everywhere podcast, the plan is to work through all the original stories, eventually. so far it's been short stories, each one taking up 2-3 episodes (with one 4 part). so there's LOTS of goodness ahead, and plenty of time for the friendship to develop.

it's also nice listening to a show that comes out once a week, like we wish our tv shows would go back to. a cliffhanger has a chance to BE a cliffhanger. and it doesn't seem like the writer is going around congratulating himself on his cleverness, he's just getting on with writing a damn fine show.

I enjoy compiling Good Omens fun facts and organizing them into a more animated/decorated/me format. So this post is all about the South Downs and The Second Coming. Everything here is very factual, except for the part of the beekeeping being associated with Sherlock Holmes. That’s just a connection I, and many others ,have made.

Beautiful post, thank you op! I want to add (for any others like me who joined the GO fandom around S2) that the ajodasso blog that asked about the South Downs at Terry and Neil's book signings in Sept 2005 to get us this information is @irisbleufic (recap post about it on their tumblr).

In Oct 2005, they began writing what was intended to be a standalone chapter about the cottage but became the 75 chapter, 275000 word short story series, Crown of Thorns, completed in 2019 (fanlore.org article)!

I also just saw that there is a 41 voice actor podfic of it?! With original musical score and art for each chapter?! (listen on AO3 or see this article on fanlore.org for links to listen on other sites)

Yep! The old ajodasso LJ is indeed me. I had a second LJ account at the time that was solely for my fanfic, irisbleufic. That content is now all on my irisbleufic AO3 and this Tumblr. Thanks so much for looping me in on this, @most-normal-eccles-cake-ignorer, as I’ve been mildly frustrated with people saying, oh, the person who first got that info and started writing that first fic isn’t around anymore! Fic is therapy in so many ways, and that’s why compassionate and realistic writing like we find in GO is so important. And GO is so rich with layers and applications. It’s no surprise that two of the biggest fics in the fandom are written by therapists (Demonology and the Tri-Phasic Model and I believe Slow Show as well, for the OP if they’re interested)

May I also recommend to OP the work of my friend and beta reader @twilightcitysky, especially the tour-de-force Chemistry and her maiden fic Defence Cascade. Sky also practices the therapist's art and it glows through her work.

i just finished (re?) reading demenology, while awaiting chapters of the new companion story about aziraphale. i listened to the podfic a couple years ago. slow show is also amazing. will check out the rest!

if i'm having a hard time, i go to ExMarks and listen to them read the nest stories, starting with Bower Birds. then if i need more, i listen to the rest of that series, and then anything else, like sozzled in soho, etc.

I recently binged season 1 of Good Omens. Perfect timing too, with season 2 releasing so soon. I quite enjoyed the first season, and am thoroughly excited for the next one! In the meantime, I found a recommendation for the fanfic series, Pray For Us, Icarus by Atalan. oH BOY it hit me in the feels like a ton of bricks. I very much enjoyed it. Read the whole series in less than 24 hours. Highly recommend giving it a read.

While I was reading, I knew I wanted to draw something for it. A few ideas were floating around in my head as I continued through, but when I got to this sentence...

"And it was like being hit by a wall of water, like being bowled over and bruised and broken and baptised, like taking a breath and drawing water deep into his lungs, so much water he could barely hold it within his skin, too many memories, too many lifetimes, flowers and music and fear and loss and Aziraphale, Aziraphale—"

..it was like instant inspiration. Immediately I had the whole scene in mind. The figures inside the silhouettes, Crowley near drowning in his own mess of memories, Aziraphale watching helplessly. Aziraphale tied to his duties, Crowley tied to an unknown force dragging him deeper under the surface...

Man, I'm always so happy when an idea in my brain looks good on paper too. Sometimes I need to remember to trust the process, even with my own work.
