Anyone who couldn't see it at the theatre now has the chance to see Michael Sheen in Nye on YouTube in November 🥰
This is a scene from Nye, the play that Michael Sheen did earlier this year. It’s about Aneurin “Nye” Bevan who was the politician who created the NHS in the UK. This scene is with Jennie Lee, his future wife, played by Sharon Small.
They are both newly elected to Parliament at this point in the play. That ^^ clip follows this one, if you want to see the whole scene (with a little overlap).
Please ask if you want to repost this, thanks! And if you make any gifs, I’d love to be tagged 😊
(I’m sure I’ll be making more)
it's a wonderful story and a wonderful play, and do go see it if your local cinema can get NT Live.
The library scene 💙
This is amazing @nar0art I love the connection between Azi and Nye going beyond Michael Sheen’s outstanding performance.
Also, when Nye realised that the could read books for free (from the library) it was 😭😭😭😭😭😭
@blue-posey I'm glad you like it! :D
The library scene was one of my favourites. From what you mentioned with all the childish play realizing the possibilities open to them to the transformation into adulthood through only words with articulation and body language! It was such a good scene!! (One of many :> )
And especially the transformation part wouldn't have been the same if it wasn't for Michael's amazing performance!
I just had to make fanart of it and since the books were a sort of weapon and shield for Nye, I couldn't help imagine Aziraphale as a kind of guardian angel showing him ways to defend himself :')
*beats drum* this is such a good play, if you can get to an nt live showing at your local cinema, cancel other plans and go.
If you want to get angry with every American politician who railed against socialized medicine, try making an appointment with a specialist with private health insurance.
Recall their warnings about rationing of care as you're told that the first available appointment is a Thursday afternoon four months away.
Think about the fearmongering about how the quality of care would drop as your doctor meets with you for all of fifteen minutes, half of which is asking you questions you answered on a survey before you came in, the other half doing the minimum amount of tests of your breathing, blood pressure and the like necessary to bill your insurance.
Recall the hysteria around 'death panels' as your doctor goes over the long-term risks of not having your condition treated, and then tells you to call a number to actually get tested for the condition that has another two month waiting list.
And keep in mind how many privileges you possess that others do not that prevented this whole process from being even more difficult. Privileges like living close enough to a major city that the specialist is only 40 minutes away by car and not two hours. The fact that you own your own vehicle. How you are able to take time off of work without worrying about a supervisor calling you last minute to say you need to come in. The fact that you can afford the copays, can afford to miss a half day of work, don't have to worry about whether you'll be home in time before kids get back from school, etc.
In short: it was all a crock of shit.
I was extremely lucky and managed to get tickets to see Nye whilst I was staying in Cardiff. Such a good show! Michael is brilliant, as is the rest of the ensemble. He has such a presence on stage and conveys so much with his physical performance. I am in awe.
So goooood!
The theatre is gorgeous as well! Despite living in Cardiff for years I have never been inside the millennium centre. It’s such a wonderful welcoming space. Kinda just want to go and hang out and drink coffee there.
