Hello lovely! I'm wondering if you have any thoughts about Maggie in Final1 5? Isn't it weird that she wants to go back to talk to Az and Crowley while Nina's working? Something about it feels off to me.
Hello right back. 💕 There's chamomile mint tea and shortbread since we're on a Maggie theme, if you'd like some. Maggie's behavior from that scene on is super fucking weird, I agree.
Before the milk run-- when Maggie becomes the only involved character whom we lose track of a bit during The Final 15-- versus how she behaves when she returns is so strange as to be something that I consider maybe additional proof that things are not at all what they seem to be in The Final 15.
On Maggie and Crowley's weird Final 15 behavior, a possible meaning to all the allusions to robbery in S2, and what Maggie and Nina might be able to tell us about what happened at the end of S2.
I have another angle on the robbery theme, and another parallel scene.
Remember that the bookshop is also Eden. It's not quite as clear from a distant overhead shot:
But the front walls parallel:
I think the robbery also parallels Eve taking the apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
Remember that, in Genesis, Eden has two special trees. Adam and Eve are banished in order to prevent them from eating from the Tree of Life.
In Genesis, the cherub with the flaming sword was placed at the Eastern Gate in order to prevent Adam & Eve (and any human) from returning to the garden.
Parallel scenes:
-- Canonical past: In Eden, Crawley tempts Eve to rob the Garden of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge.
-- Possible "present" / future event: Part of Aziraphale's job on Earth is to guard the Tree of Life from being robbed.
What does the Tree of Life do?
in Genesis, it is said that eating it would give humans eternal life. Make them immortal. Could it also bring back someone who is dead?
The Guardian of the Eastern Gate, the guardian of the Tree of Life, is our angel Aziraphale.
As for records, I still think that the Book of Life exists, and records... something.
What does the Book of Life record? That answer varies from tradition to tradition.
In Christianity, the Book of Life is mentioned again in Revelation, as listing the humans who will go to Heaven after the Day of Judgement. In Christianity, damnation implies one is written out of the Book of Life (ergo, none of the demons are in it anymore).
Calvinist Christianity claims that the people who will be saved are already determined and written down.
As I understand Judaism, the Book of Life and the Book of Death are both open right now, during the High Holy Days, while God writes down who will live and who will die in the next year. Judaism is much more focused on this life, now, than whatever happens when humans die.
Beelzebub says that erasing a being from the Book of Life, erases them from ever existing. (Not a good idea for either the Serpent of Eden, if he's even in it anymore, or the Guardian of the Eastern Gate.) Beez also says that this erasure is what Extreme Sanctions means.
Michael mentions the Book of Life as what will happen under Extreme Sanctions, however Heaven doesn't spell out exactly what that means. It could be what Beez said, if ze was telling the truth.
Yes, Crowley says it didn't exist, and Beelzebub insists that it does. So we are not likely to know the canonical perspective until S3.
Headcanons and fan theories should vary as we speculate.
Where is the Book of Life?
I have at least two contradictory theories.
Option 1: The Book of Life is the Tree of Life which remains in Eden, and therefore is (was?) kept in the bookshop under Aziraphale's guardianship.
This could mean any of
a) someone tried to steal it, so AziraCrow amped up their protections,
b) someone did steal it and it is missing,
c) someone wants to steal it, so AziraCrow moved it for protection,
d) the Final 15 removes Aziraphale from his place as guardian, or some other option.
Option 2: The Book of Life was in Heaven and was stolen. Whether the thief was:
a) Gabriel (at some point the book was in the box)
b) Crowley, during his spy mission
c) some other character,
we don't know yet.
(Note that this concept of a stolen book also parallels the S1 scene with Anathema and Adam, about her lost book.)
How this relates to Maggie... as kin, Maggie is also a guardian of the Tree, whether she knows it or not. Similarly, Crowley shares the role, and Muriel appears assigned to take over.
Since Back Room Records and the Bookshop are part of each other, both are also part of Eden. Which means, if the Tree of Life / Book of Life are in the "bookshop," it could be in Back Room Records.
(Music conveys information in a tuneful way)
In the Job scene, Ennon flirts with Aziraphale, paralleling Crowley. Keziah has an attitude, paralelling Nina. Jemimah is cute, possibly Maggie or Muriel.
hi @kayleefansposts! Lots of good stuff to ponder here. 💕I love seeing how other people see the story. We'll have to see how it all plays out in S3. The big thing that I agree with on that you mentioned are parallels between Eden and the bookshop. I think there could be something to some parallel ideas about robbery but I have a very different take on The Book of Life, if you're interested.
Something that I noticed in Good Omens season 2, thanks to watching Danny Motta’s reaction video. I spoke about it in the post where I shared the YouTube video but thought this deserves its own post.
In episode 1 of season 2 Maggie decides to bring Nina a gift. A record of Nina Simone.
Nina has trouble accepting the gift and because she doesn’t have a record player refuses it. And also behaves a little awkward about the gesture.
I find this scene interesting because there was what I think was an intended parallel scene between Crowley and Aziraphale that we never got. A scene set when the bookshop first opened, with Gabriel and a couple other archangels infiltrating the bookshop. Crowley walks by on the outside with a box a chocolates mouthing as such to Aziraphale through the window, who has to signal to Crowley to leave and then speaks about him being a wily opponent to the archangels.
Essentially Aziraphale rejects the gift because he’s not in the position to accept it at that time.
I’m sad we never got that scene, because it seems like it would have helped provide further narrative on Aziraphale feeling so trapped by a controlling relationship that he feels like he can’t even accept simple gestures without it being seen as improper or somehow a betrayal of that relationship (Nina/Lindsay coded).
There’s a number of other parallels I’ve noticed that seem to show that Aziraphale and Nina are coded for each other, but I wanted to point this one out specifically because I don’t think anyone else has noticed it yet (that I’ve seen).
What are your thoughts and have you noticed other parallels too? And does anyone have any ideas about the significance of the specific record Maggie tries to gift?
Huh. Interesting.
oh, good catch, interesting insight.
Crowley is a landscaper…
Incorrect Good Omens Quotes Masterpost : here
Because you and Mr. Fell don't ever talk to each other. We talk all the time. We've been talking for millions of years. Bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla-bla. I say something brilliant, and he says something unintentionally funny back. It's great. You never say what you're really thinking.
Just had GO s2 on in the background while I was doing some craft and some percolating thoughts came out of the first Maggie and Nina exchange.
Nina: See anything you fancy? Maggie: Oh. Yes. Coffee. Nina: The usual, then? Don't tell me, it's in here. You're a skinny latte. Maggie: You remembered :) Nina: A lot of people in this head, and a lot of coffees, but I only remember the regulars.
Now bear with me on this mental ramble as I try and put these thoughts in order. I'll divide it into three points:
i think the bentley would choose aziraphale 😝
I think the Bentley would choose Nina's cute foldie bicycle
but I'm told I'm kind of weird about bicycles so
