Everyone wants to leave a record, however small or brief, of their existence. This is Jim's.
I have been reading some things about love in the books. There are different kinds. People have children and love them. Some people talk about loving the world. It means that someone else matters very much to you, and you would be sad without them, and you want them to be safe and happy.
I think the song is about the kind of love where one special person matters more than anyone else. You would do anything, or give up anything, to protect that person or be with them.
It feels as if I did that once.
