Here's a little snippet from my next Dad!Tyler fic, Connie's Confession.
“Oh my God Issac! LEAVE! ME! ALONE!”
The ceiling above Tyler’s study quaked from the force of Connie slamming her bedroom door.
There was a despondent shuffle of footsteps down the stairs, then Isaac appeared in front of Tyler’s desk with a glum look on his face.
“What’s going on up there?”
“Connie’s crying. I kept trying to see if she was ok but she told me to go away and I gave her my octopus but she threw it at me and made it sad.”
There was a lot for Tyler to unpack in that sentence.
Surprisingly, the octopus was the easiest to make sense of. Issac had helpfully presented the aforementioned sea creature to him as proof of his story. It was one of those soft cuddly ones that could be turned inside out to reflect a person’s mood - the white side wore a smile, but the black side wore a frown. And that sad little frown felt emblematic of his current relationship with his teenage daughter.
Tyler was desperate to rush upstairs and comfort her. Like any caring father, he would don his armour and vanquish an entire army of foes that had ever made Connie so much as pout if she asked him to. He would do everything in his power to banish her worries from the kingdom, never to return, if that’s what she needed. But right now, he doubted she would let him get close enough to try. It was as if she had locked herself in the castle’s tallest tower, where he couldn’t easily reach.
But his little girl was hurting, and she needed her dad. Not even a fire-breathing dragon, forest of thorns, or a deep dark wood full of monsters could keep him away.
