[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 31 - Savior
Well I honestly did not think I was going to get this picture done, but I am so happy I did.
It is based on an image I found over the summer, of a model who looks similar to Beelzebub (medium skin, curly dark hair, strong arms), who was holding a peacock. It delighted me and I decided I needed to redraw it with Bee immediately.
And it's kind of funny to put on the prompt 'savior' because that's how Beelzebub views himself when it comes to his husband... aka the silly peacock angel (Lucifer) who is really good at messing things up. But in Heresiarch, Lucifer also has a pet peacock (the original peacock), and it was even funnier/cuter to imagine Bee (or Bael, as he was called back then) holding him and protecting him from... something, we don't know what.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 28 - Court
You didn't think I was going to let Angeltober go by without posting this version of my Mulciber illustration that I specifically made for Angeltober?
It was originally planned for Ultrangeltober Day 12 - Gothic, however... that placement didn't look good in my IG layout. But it fits for 'Court' as well, since the model building he is holding is of Pandemonium's Throne Hall—the Lethean Wing, as it is called in the story, or the Court of the Fallen Host.
If anyone is interested about the various wings of Pandemonium, multiple months back, there is a post with all of the Pandemonium maps that I made for the novels.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 27 - Golgotha
"They brought him to the place called Golgotha, which means 'the place of the skull'..." (Mark 15:22)
I just think this word is neat. And also very relevant to Lucifer's character in multiple ways, especially in The Harrowing and Holiest.
The Harrowing is a story built on the Gospel of Nicodemus (also known as the Acts of Pilate), in which Satan openly takes the credit for Judas' betrayal and the death of Jesus, aligning with the gospels of Luke and John which suggest that Satan possessed Judas.
And my Lucifer (who also claims the name Satan, or Satanael in particular) already has an interesting relationship with the concept of death, and in Holiest, he's a little bit preoccupied with skulls—no matter which skull he may be looking upon, he often says things like "they look at me with so much disdain," and "how could it be that the gaze of the eyeless dead is so much more damning than the eyes of angels?" (both from Canto VI).
Well, Golgotha, the place where Jesus was crucified, provides the answer to that. It's easy to think every skull is damning you when you unknowingly see every skull as relevant to, or even belonging to, Jesus himself.
Anyways, I just wanted to draw him with one of the things haunting him in the novels.
[ULTRANGELTOBER 2023] Day 24 - Twin
This was literally an excuse to get this lovely birthday present for @a-thenais onto my profiles. I'm surprised I didn't do it last year, since the prompt is for last year's Ultrangeltober.
It features both of our Lucifers, or 'the twins', as we call them for being so similar. This is non-canonical to either of our stories, although their designs are canonical to how they are in each of their heavens. It includes my Lucifer's pet peacock named Phosphoros, and her Lucifer's unnamed cobra friend.
[ANGELTOBER 2023] Day 22 - Theophany
Well with this prompt, I give you the entirety of chapter 1 of the Sepher Metatron. No, it's not long. Because this is supposed to be for an illustrated book, and the background is actually from the artworks for the first pages, representing each of the Heavenly Spheres...
The Sepher Metatron (Book of Metatron the Blessed) is a part of [The Divine Tragedy universe] and is written as if Metatron is speaking directly to the readers, taking them on a tour of the Spheres of Heaven. It is inspired by 3 Enoch, and it is in three parts:
I personally adore this project, although I've not been able to work on the illustrations recently. If you would like to follow its updates and see some of the illustrations, they are available on my patreon.
And enjoy this fun bonus featuring Metatron:
[ANGELTOBER 2023] Day 18 - Decay (+24 Carrion, +15 Corvidae)
Oops I combined a bunch of prompts here. This was originally created for [Angeltober] Day 24 - Carrion.
Because Beelzebub is a carrion crow, and I wanted to draw him feeding his murder of crows some carrion. But then I saw the 'Corvidae' prompt for [Ultrangeltober], of course it fit perfectly for that.
However, then I needed to rearrange my layout a bit for other prompt ideas that I wanted to do. So Bee & his crows got repositioned to be posted on Day 18 - Decay, one of last year's prompts which fit the picture as well.
I don't have too much to say on it. My favorite crow is the lonely little guy on the left side. It was also so nice to draw my favorite seraph. <3
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 15 - Heretic
I have been aching to share this full piece since August.
Honestly the prompt I wanted to put was 'heresiarch', but that's literally the title of [one of my novels], and a word not many people may know. For my prompt list, I elected the simpler version that people would be more familiar with.
Anyways, a heresiarch is the founder of a heresy or the leader of a heretical sect, whereas a heretic is a follower of a heresy. My novels assume the viewpoint that Lucifer was the original heresiarch, thus explaining the title of the novel that features his rebellion. I have many, many words I could write on heresy and apostasy in my novels, but that's another issue entirely.
This was all a big excuse to draw my favorite angel with his glorious tail.
[ULTRANGELTOBER 2024] Day 14 - Stained Glass
The colored version of last year's [stained glass prompt] featuring Lucifer.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 13 - Metanoia
Featuring Metatron directly after the biggest (worst) decision of his existence...
Please check out patreon or instagram for additional commentary and a tiny announcement about his Sepher Metatron series.
[ULTRANGELTOBER 2021] Day 11 - All-Seeing
This was based on something @a-thenais sent me and was not in my original Angeltober lineup. But I wanted to draw it so badly that I decided to wedge it into a prompt somehow. Based on what would fit best into my IG feed, I chose 'All-Seeing' from the Ultrangeltober 2021 list...
And boy, does Metatron have some interesting lore regarding that concept, which I go into detail about a bit in other posts and on my IG and patreon. There are so many ways he manages to be 'all-seeing' and 'all-knowing'... and one of those ways is watching intently over your head while you write your litany for the thousandth time...
Anyways, like I mentioned, this was based on a photo, which was the perfect pose for Lucifer & Metatron's situation in The Harrowing—the novel where Lucifer is imprisoned for 1000 years, with a certain menacing dove bothering him the entire time.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 10 - Chariot
The first Angeltober this year that is excerpt-only. It originally had an illustration that I chose not to complete due to time constraints, but you can view the WIP on patreon.
Text version under the cut...
[ANGELTOBER 2023] Day 8 - Mirror
Finally finished this piece from last year's Angeltober, featuring Metatron and Lucifer. For an excerpt and commentary about what the hell is going on with these two, please check out the free post on patreon. Inspired by various paintings of Narcissus.
[ULTRANGELTOBER 2024] Day 5 - Chalice
"At the time of the crucifixion, the angels descended from Heaven and with their wings, covered Christ's bleeding wounds. Uriel also dipped his wing in the blood flowing from Christ's flank and filled a chalice with it. He fled to Ethiopia and sprinkled it all over the country, and in every place where a drop of blood fell, a church was built."
This prompt was simply the perfect excuse to make a picture for my favorite piece of Uriel lore in the world—regarding his association with the chalice and also with Ethiopia, which inspired his design in my novels.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 3 - Hellmouth
A bit more conceptual than I originally planned. I was going to draw the actual damn gate but Lucifer wanted this instead, it seems.
Please check out patreon or instagram for a free excerpt from Holiest that many of its former readers may remember. Don't worry, the story is on its way back to you—in the format of a physical novel this time.
[ANGELTOBER 2024] Day 1 - Ossuary
Featuring Asmodeus with a halo made of bone.
Please check out patreon or instagram for additional lore regarding both this piece and the neat ossuary in my novels.
