i need to talk about gentle boy king sam ok
fave character meme: [5/5 episodes] swan song
It’s okay, Dean. It’s gonna be okay. I’ve got him.
They all say we’ll say yes. What if they’re right?
And this is what it comes to, maybe what it always will come to: Sam in the Cage, standing alone before an archangel.
Rowena outside is holding the door cracked, ready to slam shut, and Jack and his mother and the other Charlie are shielding the witch from the hordes of Hell who are just discovering their invasion. Jack’s used up most of his hard-earned juice, and Charlie’s almost exhausted her repertoire of newbie spells. They don’t have much time.
That’s all right; Sam didn’t come here for any protracted negotiations. “So will you do it?”
Michael tips his head to the side, too far to look natural. In this projection of the Cage he looks like Sam’s father, but younger than when Sam knew him, and gaunt, cheeks hollowed, tendons standing out on the back of his hands. “You’re not made for me,” he says, seemingly calm, but there’s a shaky edge to his voice that makes the hair stand on end. “I won’t be as strong. Not hardly.”
“I know,” Sam says. “Will you do it?”
Michael tilts his head in the other direction, clamps his teeth together and pulls his lips back to bare them. His tongue flickers behind their gravestone-white. “This other—this other me. He stole my Sword. He murdered my little brother. I’ll do it.”
“Good,” Sam says. Lifts his chin and squares his shoulders, ready. “Then, yes.”
5.22 // 13.23 ↳ “I told you; this would always happen in Detroit.” // “Thanks for the suit.”

Jack has never felt this weak before, has never felt such a constant sharp hum of pain. He can’t keep himself standing any longer and sinks to his knees. The metallic smell of his own blood makes him dizzy.
Sam kneels down and holds him. They just sit there, sprawled out on the church floor with the devil lying dead behind them.
Jack wonders if Sam still thinks he’s worth all this.
Like father, like son John and Dean saying Yes to Michael to save their family.
Desperate Sam - His last-ditch attempt to save Dean.
Fic: Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die (13.22 coda)
They get everyone squared away. Mary back in her room, New Charlie and New Bobby as close to Dean as he can reasonably put them. Ketch and Mary seem to have come to an uneasy truce, but he still puts the man as far away from her as possible. Some people have already partnered in one way or another, and others pick roommates. It works. It’s fine. Most of the good guys made it through safely, neither of the bad guys did, and dear god Sam is alive. He’s here and alive, standing in the kitchen in bloodstained jeans and someone else’s sweatshirt, drinking whiskey. They don’t need to think about how it happened. It happened, and nothing else matters.
(Sometimes Dean watches Sam do something he never did Before - an overly-startled flinch at a loud noise, a very specific hands-clenched thousand-yard stare, the way he accepts Cas’s healing with fearful eyes and a stubborn jaw - and he thinks this is from Hell, this is Lucifer’s doing. And if he allows himself to think about it further, which he tries not to do, he thinks if I had let him go to Heaven after Cold Oak, if I’d just had the balls to let go, he never would have gone to Hell. He never would have met Lucifer. This is all on me.
He has never mentioned it to Sam, because he’s terrified that his brother will turn to him with those sad, fearful eyes and say yeah, I think about that too.)
Dean, we’re going to that place, and we’re gonna save Jack and Mom. Together. And if something happens, we will deal with it together. And if we die? We’ll do that together, too.
So even without Dean breaking the first seal and Sam breaking the last seal, Lucifer still would have escaped from the Cage and overran earth with his demon army. Michael and his angel army would have defeated Lucifer and then turn their power onto humanity and destroy the world, leaving the survivors a fate worse than death.
mary and sam sure are going to have a lot to talk about after being tortured by the same fucking person
This was originally about Toni but now that we’re in s13 and she’s been stuck with Lucifer and Michael both? Wooh Boy
