The story begins on a bloody battlefield one cold foggy morning in October. A huge battle rages all around in a small place called Germantown. Men by the thousands are engaged in the fighting. Sybil Ludington was a simple colonial women living just outside of New York in 1776 during the American Revolution in rural Dutchess county. She was the eldest child of commander Henry Ludington. Sybil’s father belonged to the Dutchess County militia.

The American Revolution was a time that people really stood up for their beliefs and took a stand for the things they felt to be right whether it was for the cause of patriotism or King George III. The two sides had people rushing to do their part.
