Alright lovelies, listen up. I’ve been pondering this quote, and Sherlock’s character development, and it got me thinking about how wonderfully Benedict played Sherlock’s growth from a great man to a good one. And I think that part of the reason he did this so beautifully is that Benedict himself is not just a Great man. He is also a Good one.
This is so important.
Today I told a friend that she might enjoy watching Patrick Melrose, because it starred BC and I thought he had done a wonderful job.
“Why are you so besotted with another boring white male actor?” she replied.
First of all, I’m not “besotted” with Benedict. Do I think he is attractive? Damn right. But I’m not “besotted” with him—
I look up to him.
Benedict consistently demonstrates extraordinary talent as an actor, but he also demonstrates that he is an extraordinarily good person. Others have made posts detailing some of the many ways Benedict uses his own position of fame to help the poor, the oppressed, the downtrodden of the world, so I won’t go into full detail here. If you’re a fan, you know.
But even more visible is the way he interacts with his peers, his friends, his family, and even his fans. Benedict is a kind person. He always has a smile to give, speaks to everyone with not just courtesy but genuine respect and care. His face is capable of transforming with his roles, but also of displaying a true depth of love and compassion for those around him. I could go on for the length of my blog, but I won’t.
This is for everyone who thinks we idolize Benedict because he is “hot”.
YeAh, he is a great looking man.
But more importantly, he is a good one.
