say what you will but inserting the line “i burn my life to make a sunrise that i know i’ll never see” in a show where the purpose is to tie in to rogue one, knowing what happens there, is insane. like, it’s purposefully put there to make people (me) lose it. a master lesson in how to deliver a tragedy and instead of trying to help viewers make peace with it (that was already never happening but still) making the deliberate choice to reinforce it and cause it to hurt even more as the years pass.
brilliant bastards.
i personally think the lightsaber maul got from mother talzin after his restoration shouldn't have been an ass pull replica of his old one. like where did she even get that from.
it would have been SO much cooler if he'd clung on to obi-wan's first lightsaber after both he and it fell down that reactor shaft on naboo. the symbolism of it all would be so tasty. he kept that thing for years, he turned it red and corrupted it but it still very much carries a part of obi-wan around. maul claims he left him for dead and his lightsaber echoes that sentiment. and imagine if he kept that thing until obi-wan kills him on tatooine so many decades later. bro i wouldn't have recovered

the wretched abomination known as the minotaur has discovered some chalk
today in defenses of boromir that no one asked for: tired of reading that boromir’s death was in vain because he failed to save merry & pippin from the uruk-hai. the fact that this clearly important warrior was willing to die to protect those two is what convinced the urukhai that they had indeed captured the halfing who carried whatever important thing saruman wanted. they took the hobbits to isengard (to isengard gard) because they thought they had the right ones! boromir didn’t succeed in preventing their capture but he did in fact keep them alive by making them seem valuable. furthermore, he actually also saves frodo in this way: because the orcs and uruk-hai think they have what they came for, they stop looking and turn back: if they had not, they might have ultimately found and captured frodo or at least raised the alarm that a hobbit with an Important Thing was on the loose, setting others searching. which is the very heart of tolkien’s worldview - that you do the right thing because it is right, and doing the right thing is never in vain.
to conclude this essay boromir died a hero and saved not just merry and pippin but also frodo and sam.
some excellent additions in the tags here @erynalasse & @manta-ray-parade

i love when people say michael’s existence is a plot hole because spock obviously has such a good track record of telling jim about his family members
This is genuinely the funniest shit I’ve ever seen. Society has peaked

reminiscing and thinking about how one of the reasons rogue one fucks so hard for me is bc the force is. like. just barely implied. to be there. jyn takes out her kyber necklace and prays for the imperials to let them pass. was that the force? was that just a happy coincidence? chirrut walks across a battlefield unscathed to reach the master switch. was that the force? just dumb luck? the rebels manage to escape vader by the absolute skin of their teeth. the force? sheer panic and willpower? like, hell yes. the force is in all living creatures, but how much of what happens in star wars is The Force, and how much of it is singular actions and sentient self-determination
The night of his promotion, Fives is there, silent in his support. But he can't help but wonder why is Jesse's other side empty. Why isn't Echo also there with them.
