The games offer you information on the world and characters without spoon-feeding it to you. When you take into consideration that the most "experience" these fans tend to have is skimming through fucking Wikia's of all things or taking what some self-proclaimed youtuber "loremaster" says like its gospel, it's not surprising. I've said it before - You cannot watch a compilation of YT Sonic game cutscenes, read a shitty "Encyclopedia" written by a hack who even admitted to using Wikia's as the predominant basis of his "knowledge" that has over 50 amateur errors, contradictory Twitter takeovers and, as stated, read fan-edited Wikia's (Which are subject to inaccuracies because any Tom, Dick or Harry can edit them regardless of their actual knowledge level.) and honestly believe you're some sort of temple of knowledge. You need hands-on experience with the games. MULTIPLE games. Reading manuals and actual creator-written guides. Reading interviews with the actual creators to clue yourself in on intel that isn't in the material or isn't explicitly stated in said material. Or go the extra mile like I do and translate it yourself if its in Japanese if someone reputable hasn't done so yet. Sonic is a series that has a surprising amount of in-depth lore. Especially if you know where to look for it. Just because you're lazy or don't want to shell-out for games to find it yourself doesn't mean it isn't there.

I see fans state the age old line of "Sonic isn't as popular in Japan, y'know?!" in a mean spirited take. But the news flash is, Sonic in general isn't as popular as people think. The character is popular, the movies did well, but the gaming figures are decent to ok, but not nearly enough to rub shoulders with the competition.

Sonic Frontiers sold 3.5 million copies. Whilst that seems impressive, in the same year, Hogwarts Legacy sold 15 million copies, Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom sold 19.5 million copies. Shadow of the Tomb Raider sold 8.9 million copies. I haven't even mentioned GTA or COD but you get the gist of it.

Sonic Superstars didn't do nearly as well as SEGA had hoped for and I can see why. Sonic Origins' figures are inconclusive, but I imagine it inched better.

The point I'm stating is certain Sonic fans who harper on about figures and how amazeballs the series is doing, aren't pulling their weight. If it's not a comic they can pirate online or a Sonic show on YouTube or Netflix, why do they need to bother? It is infuriating when fans like myself boast a library of over 40 Sonic games. Just an FYI, this isn't an attack on fans who don't play the games, this is for those that think Sonic is doing amazingly and are quick to shoot down fans who prefer a certain aspect of Sonic or criticise it because... uh... we actually play the games.

This also isn't saying Sonic and SEGA are doing badly, when it's evident they aren't. But it could be better if they wish to mirror the early 90s heyday by using cheap tricks to add nostalgia into Sonic with the pointless addition of Classic Sonic.

More than a decade following the release of their Sonic the Hedgehog Nendoroid, a pre-production figure of Miles "Tails" Prower was recently unveiled by the Good Smile Company at the "Wonderful Hobby Life For You!!" toy expo in Japan.

A Knuckles the Echidna figure was also teased by the company, but the figure will be visually introduced at a later date.
