Howl's Curse (in the movie)

We all know about Sophie being cursed but what about Howl's curse? I noticed that no one ever talks about his curse, and it really is an interesting aspect of the movie. Now some people seem to believe that he turns into a bird because he wants to. However, this is not the case. Howl is cursed because he gave his heart to Calcifer so that Calcifer wouldn't die but because he gave it to him, he is being drained of his humanity. It did make Howl much more powerful, but it slowly was turning Howl into a beast. Two scenes that back up my argument are the following:

  1. Sophie's Vision 💤

In her vision she sees what Howl was becoming. In this scene she wants to help him but he in turn says, "You can't even break your own spell."

2. The Garden Scene 💐

In the garden scene Sophie says to Howl that she has this strange feeling that he is going to leave. He in turn says that he just is making it so that everyone can live a comfortable life. Howl is doing this because he realizes that he is about to lose his humanity so he wants his family to be taken care of since he will not be able to. Then when he stops the warship in the sky you can see that his body is trying to go to his bird form, but he is trying to resist. He ends up giving in to the now uncontrollable urge to get Sophie to safety.

Another Scene to go along with my point is this one:

Where Howl has almost Completely lost his humanity. Once Sophie has to go through a layer of feathers to find what is left of his pretty much unconscious humanity. He used what he had left to protect his family. This also leads me to believe that this is why he became so vain not because he was self-absorbed but because he was heartless.
