Okay so since the show might not give us it, let's talk Mal and Alina cultural headcanons:

• Mal learns Shu, Alina learns Suli. The two talk in their mother tongues when they can.

• If the orphanage is as white as I think it is, they probably didn't let kids of colour wear traditional dress openly. So, some nights, Mal and Alina wear traditional dress and end up dancing together in secret.

• Food! Alina learning how to cook dishes from Shu Han and Mal learning recipes from the Suli. The two create a feast and laugh as they let each other taste the different Shu and Suli dishes they made.

• when Mal is scared at night, Alina sings Shu to him until he fall asleep. Mal will do the same with Alina, singing to her in Suli when she wakes up from a nightmare.

• In the barracks, Mal and Alina will say goodnight to each other in their respective mother tongues before falling asleep.

• Mal says "I'm putting a Suli curse on you" whenever some white bullies Alina. He just stares at them and it creeps them out.

• One night, Mal explains to Alina that the Suli believe we carry shadows who make people repent for their wrongdoings. When he sees Nikolai for the first time, he feels his heart twist in pain. It feels like a phantom, like a shadow, stinging his heart.

• "the heart is an arrow. It demands aim to land true."

"Who told you that?" Alina whispers.

"It's a Suli proverb. I never really realised what it means until I fell in love with you," Mal murmurs, intertwining his fingers with Alina's. Alina smiles.

Malina stans are gonna be eating well during Shadow and Bone, i can already tell :)
