So she actually said that she does not see the appeal in Senshi at all and that the panty shots weren't intended to be horny - she just has a neighbor who looks kind of like him and does laundry in his underwear. Which she finds kind of weird and offputting, and put into his character to be funny.

But that's the thing. She doesn't exaggerate or grotesqueify or alter people's bodies to fit some standard. (Except insofar as she draws different species differently, and those are exquisitely practiced to ensure they have the same diversity of appearances that humans do.) She just presents people exactly as they are, complexities and oddities and all.

It just so happens that when you present people exactly as they are, what you present will be beautiful and alluring to many. Even the things you yourself might find weird and offputting. Honestly I think it's a touching example of how you don't have to see the beauty in everyone for the beauty to be there, simple honesty is enough to let the wonder of people's humanity shine through.

im seeing a lot of "queer people dont kill yourselves" posts and yes, i agree but also poc folks dont kill yourselves. you're needed in this space just as much as the white folks are. we will get through this hand in hand together

people getting mad at this post have missed the point entirely. believe it or not, not every poc is queer!! and whether you guys have intended to or not, poc are frequently excluded from conversations just like this!! and this post proves it b/c as soon as i mentioned poc people got all up in arms!! the point of this post was to point that out!! my god!! poc are going to be affected the worst!! you need to especially keep them in your thoughts regardless of if they're queer or not!!!

everyone says join your local mutual aid groups and build community, but uh, what do you do if a lot of them seem to have dissolved and the other ones don't have consistent recurring meetings.

this is real, and it's a thing that a lot of people are going to run into in the fact of calls to "get involved," especially if they're people who haven't been deeply involved in their communities before. so here's what I can share:

  1. You can't expect it to be built for you already. Community organizing has fallen apart in a lot of places. That means you may need to be the one to start it. Someone has to.
  2. Your presence will matter. Local community networks are SMALL. That means that every single person has an outsized presence and an outsized absence. One person dropping off the map can feel catastrophic, but that also means that one person stepping up can make all the difference.
  3. Find a center. Any community group needs a steady base. That can be a physical location - that's why coffeehouses were historically such effective grounds for building political and creative movements. It can also be a person or people who are consistent and reliable. If one person shows up to make space for work on a regular basis, they'll be there when the second person shows up. They'll be there for the third. That's how it starts.
  4. Play secretary. A lot of activist groups are starving for some basic admin support. Maybe you're not up for being the leader, but maybe you can organize the Google drive. Maybe you can be the one that keeps phone numbers. There's a lot of unsexy shit work out there that needs to be done.
  5. Count your eggs before you start baking. There is an economics of labor to why activism circles have shrunk. Be mindful of the time and hands you have available when deciding what work you're able to take on.
  6. Build tolerance, build coalitions. Small organizing means you can't afford to fracture over every little disagreement. Decide your mission and your values from the start, the things that are non-negotiable, and don't get hung up on the rest. Be prepared to work with people you don't like. Focus on the task at hand.
  7. Network! Know what other related or like-minded projects are out there, whether they are groups like yours in other areas or groups in your community who are doing work that intersects with yours.
  8. Be there for people. Step up. Offer to help. Even outside an organizing structure, if you become the kind of person who shows up and helps, people will remember you and they will reach out to you when need arises.

This is an excellent article. It talks about the psychology of tyranny, the history of resistance and the paths we have to take to rescue each other and recover.

Point #4 especially.

if you're waking up like me thinking "where do we even go from here?"

you:

  • build community & involve yourself locally
  • learn self sustainability skills
  • choose kindness
  • protect others & yourself
  • join or build a mutual aid group and/or network
  • find time for small joys (the arts, cooking a meal you love, spending time with loved ones, etc.)

you get to feel all the despair you want in this moment. but tomorrow morning you have to get up and resume the work. pick any of the above options. come up with your own meaningful ways to connect with the people around you so you all have support, no matter what happens in the future. give yourself something good to work towards.

answering a couple questions i got on this post since i realized ppl genuinely wanna know:

tl;dr:

  1. israel lets very, very little aid get into gaza. even the UN can't get in as much as they want to. funding individual families, gazan led initiatives, and mutual aid collectives operating out of gaza ensures gazans can provide for themselves and pay for the extremely expensive aid that is available.
  2. with all the civil infrastructure destroyed by israel, the situation on the ground has devolved into unrestricted capitalism, driving up the price of aid (that should be free!). this makes it more urgent for people to have funding for daily survival.

the post linked above has examples of how donating to individual families can help a lot. if you want to help more than one family at a time, there are many gazan-led initiatives focusing on rebuilding their infrastructure and distributing aid fairly that are worth donating to instead of large charities that already get the majority of donations.

as i mentioned in the last post: @/careforgaza on twitter is a nonprofit started by gazans, it's been endorsed by multiple palestinian journalists.

the sameer project is a collective organized by diaspora palestinians offering emergency shelter to gazans.

ele elna elak is a project aiming to bring water, food, shelter, etc. to gazans and has been promoted by bisan owda.

all of these organizations are active inside gaza right now and are being run by gazans. if anyone knows of other gazan-led mutual aid projects, nonprofits or charities feel free to link them in the notes! hope this helped!

long answers under the cut!

plugging gaza soup kitchen for those with the means to donate! it's another gazan-led initiative currently providing food, water, classes for children, and medical care across the north and south. you can donate through their website or their gofundme, or follow them on instagram for news about their projects

esims are low again. check out connecting humanity for more information on directly sending esims or for a linked to crips for esims for gaza's fundraising. you can also set up a recurring donation on chuffed for esims. i have a weekly donation here because being able to keep as many people as possible connected to the rest of the world is critical for documenting the situation and allowing individuals to continue their own grassroots fundraising/organizing

Please read this as if I'm a member of your family. Maybe your sister, daughter or a friend We've been ignored by all human rights organizations.

Please don't forget about us

Your support is our only hope

It's completely up to your humanity so please help US

afaf’s campaign is verified by operation olive branch on line 45 of their spreadsheet. the family has a presence on several other social media platforms as well such as instagram, if you would like more information.

this tiktok does a good job of summing up the family’s situation. the nursery pictured used to be the biggest nursery in gaza city, the main source of the family’s income and afaf put immense hard work and care into it until it was destroyed by the war. i can’t imagine how devastating it must be to see your entire livelihood destroyed like that.

please donate and share if you can.
