I knew what you meant Moon, I just wanted to make the joke about racist being misspelled. Because god that fanfic is terrible. And I love it.

Ah right, to be honest I haven’t actually read much of it, and when I did that was probably a decade ago or when word of it going around was new. I have a pretty good memory but I try to keep my exposure to brain-rotting material to a stricter minimum than I used to.~ Moon

This is in Gatlinburg, TN tonight. The city is on fucking fire, and I’m seeing very little coverage of it. There’s also fire behind and across the street from Ripley’s aquarium. That’s thousands of animals left behind. People are losing their homes. Honestly this breaks my heart.

UPDATE

As of tonight (Nov. 29), the Barker Lounge can shelter dogs because of the fires. Their number is 1-865-771-3738.
As of now, here are the evacuation centers: LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge, Pigeon Forge Community Center, Liberty Baptist Church in Wears Valley and Iglesia Cristiana LaDuz De Jesus.
If there are horses or mules that need to be evacuated, call 865-388-6886. Be warned that this is only one man that has volunteered to do this that I know of. There may be more. He may be able to point you in the right direction.
Facebook has activated the safety check in.
If possible, send food and water to the shelters there. They also will accept Gatorade. Consider sending baby food as well. You should also want to contact the Barker Lounge and similar places to see about sending food for animals. They have also specifically requested crates for the animals. Please get together with your local businesses and charities to organize drives. I can update this once I know more about doing this.

UPDATE 2

Here is an updated list of centers:
  • LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge
  • Liberty Baptist Church in Wears Valley

  • Douglas Lakeville Stables at 1650 Providence rd. in Sevierville, TN is   offering to pasture any displaced livestock and animals. You can         contact Kristi at 864-671-8439. They are working with others for the     transportation
  • The Barker Lounge is open all night to board dogs displaced
According to the Gatlinburg Fire Chief, the fires are mostly contained, and the worst is over.
All 11,000 of the animals at Ripley’s Aquarium are safe and cared for.
Over 250 structures were damaged. The worst of the damage was in the surrounding areas, downtown is more intact. Close to 170,000 acres were burned.
I would also like to thank the firefighters and volunteers that ensured the safety of people in the area. I would also like to thank the places that are taking in displaced animals

UPDATE 3

There are now 3 deaths and 14 injuries. They are still searching the area. The fire is still burning, but the flames are now closer to the ground.

How come women have shorter prison sentencing? Why do women have shelters just for them. But men do not?

….

Oh good, exactly what I needed today. A passive aggressive MRA anon in my ask box.

On the VERY LOW CHANCE that you are actually curious, and just want to know the answers to these questions, I’m going to actually answer them. If, however, as I 100% believe, you are an MRA anti-feminist who thinks you’re questions are a “GOTCHA” against feminism, then kindly take my answers with the two middle fingers I’m aiming your way.

1) “How come women have shorter prison sentencing?”

First of all, “women have shorter prison sentencing” is not totally accurate, and LARGELY depends on what crime we’re talking about, where in the country/world we’re talking about, whether the woman is white, how dark her skin is, and many other factors. Women who harm their husbands in self defense, for instance, are largely given much HIGHER prison sentences than men who harm their wives NOT in self defense. Also, dark skinned black women are largely given much HIGHER prison sentences than white men.

In a general sense, though, in the cases in which women ARE given shorter sentencing for the same crimes, it’s a side effect of men perceiving women as being less threatening, less powerful, less important, and also less capable of doing the kind of labor that the system uses prisoners for. So basically it’s a weird “positive” side effect of men thinking women are worth less and capable of less than they are. That attitude has a million negative effects, and just because it might (MIGHT) have a handful of positive ones for women, doesn’t make it good for women or worth it.

And on top of all of that, feminism is about seeking gender EQUALITY, which would have the side effect of fixing that issue.

However, it’s worth noting that fixing this issue may not look the way you expect, since the justice system and prison system in general is extremely fucked up, racist, and basically modern day slavery. So real feminism would be more about changing the system to one that actually HELPS society, than it would be about convicting more women for harsher sentences.

So, TLDR: “How come women have shorter prison sentencing?” Well… they don’t. And even in cases when they do, it’s because of misogyny, and feminists are working on changing it for the better of everyone.

—

2) “Why do women have shelters just for them. But men do not?”

Women have shelters just for women because women are predominantly harmed by men, and history has shown that including men in women’s safe spaces makes those “safe spaces” no longer safe.

((Side note here, I’m referring exclusively to cis men, since I don’t know any statistics about trans men on this topic, and I am referring to ALL women because excluding trans women from women-only-spaces is transmisogynistic and therefore generally misogynistic, and because trans women have never posed any real threat to cis women within safe spaces, but ABSOLUTELY need safe spaces at least as much as cis women to))

There ARE some safe spaces specifically for male victims/survivors of domestic abuse, and there are some safe spaces that are not gender restricted.

You’re right, however, that there aren’t as many. This is partly because there aren’t as many male victims/survivors of domestic abuse, but it’s also because society at large thinks that men aren’t capable of BEING victims/survivorsof domestic abuse, because the patriarchy (again) perceives women as being less threatening and less powerful than men, and perceives any man who has been abused by a woman as having been weak and feminine and a joke and not worth protecting or defending.

Women know that that’s not true, so women actually DO fight for the rights of male victims/survivors of domestic abuse. Any shelters that do exist have been fought for almost exclusively by feminists and male survivors. Men who aren’t survivors don’t tend to take this issue seriously or think about it at all (unless they need a “GOTCHA” argument against feminists, despite it not being that at all).

Also the patriarchy assumes that all men and people are cishet, so there’s little to no consideration for trans men who’ve been abused generally, or for cis men who’ve been abused by other men.

TLDR: “Why do women have shelters just for them. But men do not?” Men actually do, but not as many as they should, and that’s because of misogyny too, and feminists are working on changing it for the better of everyone.

3) You’re overall MRA bullshit attitude:

Honestly, just fuck off with your “Why aren’t feminists prioritizing men? Where’s your gender equality now, huh?” attitude. Feminists are prioritizing women specifically because society doesn’t.

Why aren’t there more shelters for men? I don’t know, why don’t you ask that question of anyone who ISN’T marginalized based on gender? Why don’t you ask that question of anyone with real power? Why don’t you ask that question in any context OTHER than trying to make feminism look bad?

How dare women prioritize women, right?

How dare women not put men’s needs first in absolutely all areas, including their activism for their own rights and safety, in the face of overwhelming oppression and violence BY MEN? How dare women carve out safe spaces for themselves in a society that is basically just one big safe space for (white) men? How dare they, right?

TLDR: Fuck you.

Avatar

This is a doozy.

Why do men have little to no DV shelters? Because of Men, you misogynist.” Well then.

And now, the truth.

1) “How come women have shorter prison sentencing?”

There’s a real disparity when it comes to prison sentencing. From this study published in 2015, the main findings were:

  • Women were less likely to be detained before trial. They were 46 percent less likely than men to held in jail prior to a trial.
  • Women who were released on bond were given lower bond amounts. Their bonds were set at amounts that were 54 percent lower than what men were required to pay.
  • Women were 58 percent less likely to be sentenced to prison.
  • For defendants who were sentenced to prison, there generally was no gender disparity in the length of the sentence. There were disparities in sentencing for some individual types of crime, however. For example, female defendants convicted of theft received longer prison sentences than male defendants convicted of theft. Women convicted of “other property offences” – a category of crimes that includes arson, receiving stolen property and breaking and entering — received shorter prison sentences.
  • Black female defendants were, in some ways, treated differently than white female defendants. Black women were assigned higher bond amounts and were more likely to be sent to prison than white women. Women of both races were equally likely to be released prior to trial.

So, there is a problem. However, whilst OP quickly brushes this over as misogyny and feminists wanting fairness, the fact is that feminists are the ones actually advocating for women not to go to prison at all, which is completely against the idea of equality – and they’re the ones in charge of Prison Reform Trust in the UK. They see women being in prison as “wrong,” wanting to treat them differently to men.

TL;DR: Women were most likely to have shorter prison sentencing originally because of misogynistic ideas, but feminists don’t want women to be in prison at all, as they like to push the ideas of misogyny that benefit women over men.

2) “Why do women have shelters just for them. But men do not?”

The entire answer by OP is deliberately skewed and wrong. A review of 48 separate studies into domestic violence found that:

  • 84% of relationships are non-violent
  • 58% of relationships that are violent, both partners abuse the other.
  • 28% of violent relationships only the woman is violent
  • 14% of violent relationships only the man is violent.

TL;DR: Feminists have redefined domestic violence so much that they refuse to accept that women are also perpetrators, deny scientific findings, refuse to allow male victims to get help, and go so far to abuse individual male victims themselves.

3) You’re overall feminist bullshit attitude:

The entire post by OP is, essentially, “Every negative thing that happens to men is because of men, feminists want equality and fairness, but fuck you if you think we should care about men!”

OP doesn’t care about facts. OP doesn’t care about what’s actually going on. OP is a perfect example of modern feminism, the one that degrades women and demonises men, all to convince women that we’re weak, useless and that we should live in a perpetual state of fear. OP is so obsessed with sticking to the narrative that when questions appear that challenge that narrative, the only thing that they can do is tell lies and get angry that they’ve been challenged.

TL;DR: OP is a sexist feminist. Of course that’s why they answered the way they did. Why is that so surprising?

Modern feminism- not about equality at all, only about getting extra special treatment…

It’s amazing how there’s nothing wrong with the anon’s question at all, and yet OP flips out, calling them “passive-aggressive” and an MRA (following the popular idea that that’s a bad thing to be, of course) and ending her wall of misinformation with a “fuck you.” ~Moon

Dear Tumblr, When you say "white people" do you mean?

When you say white people do you mean; Americans English people Anglo-Australians Anglo-Canadians Anglo-New Zealanders Anglo-Africans Germans Swiss Germans Lichtenstein people Austrians Luxembourg people Frisians Dutch people Flemish people Africaners Danish people Norwegians Swedes Icelanders Faroese people Russians Ukrainians Belorussians Croats Slovenians Slovaks Czech people Poles Serbians Bulgarians Macedonians Sorbs Rusins Cossacks Montenegrians French people French Canadians Swiss French people Walloons Italians Swiss Italians Spanish people Portuguese people Sardinians Catalans Galicians Ladins Friuls Romansh people Romanians Aromanians Moldavians Welsh people Irish people Scot people (including Gaels) Finns Hungarians Estonians Mordovians Udmurts Lithuanians Latvians Greeks Greek Cypriots?

Please be more specific

I usually mean, white Americans.

There’s still a lot of immigrant families in America who hold onto their customs and culture and raise their kids in it.

It’s not like that goes away because you want to generalize everyone.

1. Because I’ve literally never heard anyone say there were white people that weren’t considered “part of the problem” before - if you constantly heard comments saying “dear black people,” disclaimer or not (and it’s usually “not” - the typical aside typically amounting to “if you have white guilt you’re okay I guess”), then you’d get sick of it too. 2. I ... I shouldn’t be surprised by these people, I really shouldn’t. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrikaners 3. No comment. Be glad I censored this guy’s username, because ... I think he might’ve mistaken tumblr for a dating site.  Also just a quick correction to OP, I haven’t ever heard anyone call themselves “Scot” here. “Scots” is an old-fashioned term and “Scotch” refers to the whisky. It’s normally just “Scottish people.” ~ Moon (who is 1st generation American, 50-50 “white” cultures, and 100% tired of this)

50 notes and i’ll throw his backpack in the dumpster

“HAHA! Guys watch me literally bully some kid at school! I’m gonna take pictures of them and upload them to my Tumblr without his permission and then steal his personal belongings and attempt to have them destroyed by throwing them in a dumpster! LOL look how progressive I am!”

And then all the little nerds who want to be bullies celebrated your shitty actions.

Op is a vile piece of shit.

Apparently the owner of the backpack isn’t the nicest person, but that’s by OP’s standards. Anyway, here are some examples of the bizarre logic that can be found all too easily on this hellhole (multiple colours used to point out the fact that none of these usernames repeat). As for the “they started it”-style discussion also found in the notes: quit it, you sound like little kids. “Who started it” doesn’t even matter, it’s the “what” that matters here. ~Moon

I do not understand this “male privilege" bullshit.

What. Fucking. Privileges. Do. Men. Have.???????

Name them. I swear, I challenge you to name these “male privileges" and be able to prove them.

Come on, I fucking dare you.

Name them!

Oh boy. Well, as a man, I’ll tell you my male privilege.

  1. My odds of being hired for a job, when competing against female applicants, are probably skewed in my favor. The more prestigious the job, the larger the odds are skewed.
  2. I can be confident in the fact that my co-workers won’t think that I was hired/promoted because of my sex - despite the fact that it’s probably true.
  3. If I ever am promoted when a woman of my peers is better suited for the job, it is because of my sex.
  4. If i ever fail at my job or career, it won’t be seen as a blacklist against my sex’s capabilities.
  5. I am far less likely to face sexual harassment than my female peers.
  6. If I do the same task as a woman, and if the measurement is at all subjective, chances are people will think I did a better job.
  7. If I am a teen or an adult, and I stay out of prison, my odds of getting raped are relatively low.
  8. On average, I’m taught that walking alone after dark by myself is less than dangerous than it is for my female peers.
  9. If I choose not to have children, my masculinity will not be questioned.
  10. If I do have children but I do not provide primary care for them, my masculinity will not be questioned.
  11. If I have children and I do care for them, I’ll be praised even if my care is only marginally competent.
  12. If I have children and a career, no one will think I’m selfish for not staying at home.
  13. If I seek political office, my relationship with my children or who I deem to take care of them will more often not be scrutinized by the press.
  14. My elected representatives are mostly people of my own sex. The more prestigious the position, the more this is true.
  15. When i seek out “the person in charge", it is likely that they will be someone of my own sex. The higher the position, the more often this is true.
  16. As a child, chances are I am encouraged to be more active and outgoing than my sisters.
  17. As a child, I could choose from an almost infinite variety of children’s media featuring positive, active, non-stereotyped heroes of my own sex. I never had to look for it; male protagonists were (and are) the default.
  18. As a child, chances are I got more teacher attention than girls who raised their hands just as often.
  19. If my day, week or year is going badly, I need not ask of each negative episode or situation whether or not it has sexist overtones. (Nobody’s going to ask if I’m upset because I’m menstruating.)
  20. I can turn on the television or glance at the front page of the newspaper and see people of my own sex widely represented.
  21. If I’m careless with my financial affairs it won’t be attributed to my sex.
  22. If I’m careless with my driving it won’t be attributed to my sex.
  23. I can speak in public to a large group without putting my sex on trial.
  24. Even if I sleep with a lot of women, there is little to no chance that I will be seriously labeled a “slut,” nor is there any male counterpart to “slut-bashing.”
  25. I do not have to worry about the message my wardrobe sends about my sexual availability.
  26. My clothing is typically less expensive and better-constructed than women’s clothing for the same social status. While I have fewer options, my clothes will probably fit better than a woman’s without tailoring.
  27. The grooming regimen expected of me is relatively cheap and consumes little time.
  28. If I buy a new car, chances are I’ll be offered a better price than a woman buying the same car. The same goes for other expensive merchandise.
  29. If I’m not conventionally attractive, the disadvantages are relatively small and easy to ignore.
  30. I can be loud with no fear of being called a shrew. I can be aggressive with no fear of being called a bitch.
  31. I can ask for legal protection from violence that happens mostly to men without being seen as a selfish special interest, since that kind of violence is called “crime” and is a general social concern. (Violence that happens mostly to women is usually called “domestic violence” or “acquaintance rape,” and is seen as a special interest issue.)
  32. I can be confident that the ordinary language of day-to-day existence will always include my sex. “All men are created equal,” mailman, chairman, freshman, he.
  33. My ability to make important decisions and my capability in general will never be questioned depending on what time of the month it is.
  34. I will never be expected to change my name upon marriage or questioned if I don’t change my name.
  35. The decision to hire me will not be based on assumptions about whether or not I might choose to have a family sometime soon.
  36. Every major religion in the world is led primarily by people of my own sex. Even God, in most major religions, is pictured as male.
  37. Most major religions argue that I should be the head of my household, while my wife and children should be subservient to me.
  38. If I have a wife or live-in girlfriend, chances are we’ll divide up household chores so that she does most of the labor, and in particular the most repetitive and unrewarding tasks.
  39. If I have children with my girlfriend or wife, I can expect her to do most of the basic childcare such as changing diapers and feeding.
  40. If I have children with my wife or girlfriend, and it turns out that one of us needs to make career sacrifices to raise the kids, chances are we’ll both assume the career sacrificed should be hers.
  41. Assuming I am heterosexual, magazines, billboards, television, movies, pornography, and virtually all of media is filled with images of scantily-clad women intended to appeal to me sexually. Such images of men exist, but are rarer.
  42. In general, I am under much less pressure to be thin than my female counterparts are. If I am over-weight, I probably suffer fewer social and economic consequences for being fat than over-weight women do.
  43.  If I am heterosexual, it’s incredibly unlikely that I’ll ever be beaten up by a spouse or lover.
  44. Complete strangers generally do not walk up to me on the street and tell me to “smile.”
  45. Sexual harassment on the street virtually never happens to me. I do not need to plot my movements through public space in order to avoid being sexually harassed, or to mitigate sexual harassment.
  46. On average, I am not interrupted by women as often as women are interrupted by men.
  47. On average, I will have the privilege of not knowing about my male privilege.

And lastly, I am taken as a more credible feminist than my female peers, despite the fact that the feminist movement is not liberating to my sex.

This is male privilege.

THIS. THIS IS HOW YOU BE A MALE FEMINIST.

YES YES YES YES YES

  1. [citation needed] using the world probably when making statements about your privilege is not a good way to start.
  2. [citation needed] also affirmative action works against women and minorities because it implies that they are incapable of success without being given a leg-up, so that backfired on you, now didn’t it?
  3. [citation needed] also how often do you really think a man gets promoted over a more-qualified and better-suited woman? like really think about that for a second.
  4. [citation needed] also women sucking at their jobs doesn’t reflect on all women, just that particular person. as with everyone.
  5. [citation needed]
  6. [citation needed]
  7. [citation needed] in fact citation is so desperately needed here because that’s a straight up fucking lie and it completely fails to account for the fact that male rape is only legally viable when the man was being penetrated, and not when he was forced to penetrate.
  8. [citation needed] once again a straight up lie. men are significantly more likely to be victims of violent crime at the hands of a stranger.
  9. [citation needed] literally nobody questions a woman’s femininity if she doesn’t want children. that’s a fucking stupid thought and if you think it warrants feminism then you’re stupid too. although to be fair so far you haven’t given me any reason to believe you aren’t stupid.
  10. [citation needed] see #9. you’ve also forgotten that women take advantage of the child support system and are not required to prove via DNA testing that the man they want child support from is actually the father. men cannot fight this in court and win. in fact, in france it’s against the law to do so. so much privilege, amirite?
  11. [citation needed] good luck being the primary caregiver to your child as a man anyways since men gain full custody less than 50% of the time, even when they fight for it and even when the mother is provably incompetent
  12. speaking in evolutionary terms, men are not absolutely necessary in the care of a young child in the way that a woman is. if you actually studied mammalian sexual/reproductive behaviors, you would know that monogamous fathers care for the mother, while the mother cares for the child, except in uncommon circumstances. so even when you’re right that people won’t think you’re selfish, you’re wrong because it’s irrelevant and not indicative of male privilege
  13. [citation needed] i can’t even think of a single case where the pubic has questioned a female politician’s relationship with her children
  14. has it ever occurred in your tiny little pea brain that men and women at a fundamental level have different interests? have you ever cast a critical eye upon the differences between career choices of men and women? i doubt it, because if you had you’d have noticed that women on average strongly prefer careers where they nurture, teach, or otherwise provide mother-like services to others, while men strongly trend towards jobs that mimic the role of fatherhood, such as protective or dangerous jobs. men also account for almost all workplace deaths.
  15. see #14. if you ask me it’s only fucking fair that the same sex who constitutes 90+% of workplace fatalities should also hold higher positions. you also fail to acknowledge that a great deal of women choose to forsake their career in favor of raising children, and still other women enjoy not working a career at all simply because their husband works his ass off to provide for her.
  16. [citation needed] what kind of bullshit is that anyways? how is that relevant at all?
  17. [citation needed] i can think of plenty of cartoons and books with female heroes. just because you didnt watch them doesn’t mean they didn’t exist
  18. [citation needed]
  19. of fucking course nobody is going to ask if you’re on your period. you’re a guy. what kind of argument is that? menstruation does cause mood problems; in fact there is a mental illness classified by extreme depressive episodes before and during menstruation. i fail to see how this is someone tantamount to male privilege. it’s just biology, which is not sexist.
  20. [citation needed]
  21. [citation needed] also men make up the ridiculously vast majority of people suffering from gambling addictions, so.
  22. [citation needed] holy shit this is so fucking wrong like oh my god. insurance rates are higher for men by default because they are considered a riskier investment. do you even know how to use google?
  23. what the fuck does that even mean
  24. once again, biological fact of life. species with female gestation afford two options for the males of said species: spread your sperm far and wide and hope that if you plant many seeds, some will survive, OR stay with one female and put your energy into ensuring that your single well-attended-to offspring will survive. this is like, evolution 101.  do you really think humans are above millions of years of evolutionary instincts and behaviors? come on dude.
  25. [citation needed] i absolutely know women who judge men’s sexual availability based on their clothing, and honestly there is nothing wrong with being a sexual creature. we are animals and we like sex and we like expressing to others whether or not we want to have sex and there is nothing fucking wrong with that jesus
  26.  [citation needed] and what the fuck does that have to do with feminism? why do we need a movement so that people can complain about the quality of their clothing? if women dont feel satisfied with their clothes they can go ahead and do what so many men already do and fix the problem themselves by starting clothing companies
  27. [citation needed] have you fucking seen the cost of men’s razors? have you seen it? and if youre talking about makeup, thats not a reason for feminism. there is no divine law obligating women to wear makeup. it is a choice, through and through. women who feel like they “have to” wear makeup are making excuses for their own insecurities.

Oh! Can’t forget about the selective services!

Sorry, what was that about male privilege?

Oh yeah, you made a wishy-washy redundant list of 47 hella fucking reaches without offering any evidence to substantiate your claims.

I hope you have some time on your hands because you have a lot of reading ahead of you. Make sure to set an extra few minutes aside to cope with the shame of being so ignorant.

things that will forever make me uncomfortable: the complete lack of accountability afforded to 14-15 yos on this site who basically have free reign to abuse whoever they want because “oh protect the precious poor bby minors :( they know not what they do”

TEENAGERS. ARE. NOT. CHILDREN.

I’m just going to say this now and then go back to my business.

No one should ever feel guilt or shame for the colour of their skin, their culture, or their heritage.

You have nothing to do with what the generations before you may or may not have done (groups of people did not all follow the same moral path down to a T, unlike what history books would imply).

If someone tells you you’re scum for not constantly apologising for who you are, that’s silly and you shouldn’t let them pressure you.

If they imply that you have to repay some kind of moral debt to every culture that doesn’t match your skintone (by their definition) for the rest of your life, they are conveniently ignoring/erasing what wrongs their culture has committed.

If someone treats you like this, they’re not only a bully, but ignorant as well. And if this utter lack of kindness and logic is due to the colour of your skin, then they are racist on top of that.

Don’t fall for it. Don’t give in to it. People should be seen for how they act as a person, not for what their race is (to reword words that fall on deaf ears lately).

Honestly if people had just fucking waited a few damn days before they started freaking out, they could’ve had all their “fears” relieved. This 60 Minutes interview goes over so much, and dispells so much of the fearmongering.

1. Trump doesn’t condone violence against anyone, including African Americans, Latinos, LGBT people or Muslims.

2. He has no intention of trying to have the SCOTUS decision regarding gay marriage changed or repealed.

3. People will not be losing their healthcare. The replacement for Obamacare will be put in place at the same time it is repealed, and will keep the “pre-existing conditions” and “up to age 26” provisions.

4. He does not intend to put a ban on abortion. Only to return the decision to the individual states. If the issue is important to you, vote in your state election. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain about the outcome.

5. He will be targetting illegal immigrants with criminal records first and foremost for deportation. If you are here legally, you have nothing to fear.

6. (This wasn’t in the interview, but it is important) Anything regarding funding or instituting “conversion therapy” is not a part of the GOP platform, regardless of what Mike Pence’s personal stance may or may not be. (I say “may or may not” because he wrote the piece 16 years ago, and was not once asked about it during the campaign process)

This got me dying

who paid for this study bruh

it’‘s literally seasoning.  that’s it. that’s what make food taste good.

Bro it’s more complex than just ‘ey they used seasoning’

It’s HOW they used seasoning, compared to other areas of the world.

Indian seasoning does this neat color wheel of flavor, fitting a bunch of spices that are very DIFFERENT from each other, to create a huge range of complex flavor.

Meanwhile in Italy for instance, they tend to use flavors that are SIMILAR. For instance, Basil and Oregano, or Sweet fish with Sweet wine. It makes foods less likely to contrast weirdly in your mouth, and it’s the basis of why fancy european people pair red wines with steak and white wines with chicken. Savory with Savory, Light with Light.

“ That like flavors should be combined for better dishes—an unspoken but popular hypothesis stipulated by recipe-building in North American, Western European, and Latin American cultures—is an idea essentially reversed in Indian cuisine. “

well yes, spices need to not just complement the food but contrast against each other. to get maximum flavour when cooking indian food:

1. use whole spices, dry roast small quantities of individual spices together and then grind them to a powder. balance is what you’re looking for, not just chucking in handfuls of seasonings willy nilly because quantity does not equal flavour when it comes to spicing indian food.

2. whole spices go in the oil first. always. also everything gets fried on its own before it’s chucked into the sauce/curry. even the curry base is started off by frying onions/ginger/garlic/tomatoes or any combination thereof. basically…FRY THAT SHIT. i don’t know of any regional cuisine in india that uses stock for simmering. frying everything individually is how we add flavour instead.

3. indian food needs to be cooked long and slow for the flavours to really merge. don’t skimp on the cooking time if you can because that makes a huge difference.

This was so enlightening

I feel a need to mention that the researchers for this study are NOT white, as stated above. They’re Indian. It’s Indian people saying “why does our cuisine work and taste so vastly different than anywhere else in the world?” To quote from the article:

“Researchers Anupam Jaina, Rakhi N Kb, and Ganesh Bagler from the Indian Institute for Technology in Jodhpur ran a fine-tooth comb through TarlaDalal.com—a recipe database of more than 17,000 dishes that self-identifies as “India’s #1 food site”—in attempts to decode the magic of your chicken tikka masala or aloo gobi.”

I’m so tired of the “white people don’t know what spices are” meme showing up where it doesn’t belong.

I feel that this isn’t getting enough attention. Do people not realize how MINDBLOWING different food cultures are? I HAVE LITERALLY EATEN CURRY THAT USED CHOCOLATE AS AN INGREDIENT PEOPLE. DO YOU KNOW HOW INSANE I THOUGHT MY INDIAN FRIEND WAS AT FIRST? IT WAS FUCKING DELICIOUS THOUGH.

It isn’t a “whites” thing, it’s a WORLD thing.

I'm convinced that the people who use this "joke" whenever they can (to the degree that it may be some uncontrollable tic) grew up with parents who can't cook and relied on takeaway food.

I’m 21 and bedridden.$911 USD has to be raised within 4 hrs by 3am Oct 21 EST to pay for disability care bills + rent.

Without enough funds, I will eventually be forced onto the street.

I’m physically disabled, confined to my bed, extremely weak etc. I’ve had an absolutely horrid year, in that I’ve repeatedly had to deal with being harassed for my disability in terrifying ways by  people with institutional power against whom I cannot attempt to bring criminal charges. Right now, I just want some help to maintain hold on my housing and disability care until the government’s support kicks in, hopefully within the month. Because there’s extreme scarcity of accessible shelter, I have to live in an expensive place, for which I was invoiced $1150 yesterday. I also need help with $458 needed for food + disability support workers’ pay. I cannot stress enough that I simply won’t survive without financial help. I’ve had close to no donations for days and I would really appreciate even a dollar or a few cents. Thank you.

I’m not going to lie, it’s extremely physically and emotionally taxing to run this fundraiser, to basically say the same thing in different ways over and over again every single day without fail, and if I do fail, then I will have no protection against being dragged out onto the street or being denied healthcare. It makes me angry that people see me suffer as someone who is only 21 and becoming weaker while having been stuck in bed for years, without being willing to do anything about it. I’ve raised huge amounts at certain points during this fundraiser through viral posts, but that was only when things became desperate or dangerous for me, and that sort of situation would likely have just never happened if there were adequate and consistent reblogs & donations. I want people to understand that economic deprivation that delays healing to the point of permanent immobilisation is almost the same as deliberately imprisoning someone arbitrarily, and denying me financial support to the point of putting me in danger of economically “justified” violence is being complicit with the violent person. I also don’t think explaining my life in an honest way like this makes me “manipulative”, which suggests that people think horrible situations only exist when people make them up. I understand that not everyone can donate, and not many other people are in great financial situations either, but I am just asking for a reblog, which could really help change my situation. I’ve been getting next to no donations, and am a week behind on bills that my life is dependent on.

Update: I’ve received enough donations to cover these bills listed in the OP. Thank you all so much!!

Update #2: I’ll again have to pay another $1210 by Monday 31st Oct, to keep my room, after an alternative housing plan fell through.  Please reblog/donate if you can!! Donations can be made via gofundme.com/hmnad

I’ve received $120 in the past day but as explained, need over a thousand dollars by Monday to not become homeless
