“The Somali romance of old was quite different than what you youngsters are used to now. Love and marriage was found in the movements of Somali cultural dances, young nomadic boys polishing their slick tongue trying to woo girls who were herding sheep. It was in the cultural dances that match made in heaven were made. Once the Dhaanto (cultural dance) starts, males and females will come as far as 100 miles to dance. It usually happened at night and it was very restrained. At first there is lots of playful jest and humour, it was the perfect platform to exchange words and develop relationships for marriage but the ones that usually succeeded were those that possessed the eloquence of speech, no matter how penniless they were. It was the triumphant quality for it demonstrated one’s wisdom and one’s arsenal of metaphors and vocabulary. Somali girls used to test them with vague and metaphoric words, full of hidden messages. Our tradition was solid but times have changed.”

The Sivas Kumru Güvercin or Sivas Dove Pigeon is a very small pigeon breed originated from the Sivas Province of Turkey. It belongs to the class of pigeons called voice pigeons, bred to sing or “trumpet.” Its main characteristic is its distinctive high pitch singing, which is unlike any other known breed.

Remember the Muslim group who started raising funds to help pay for funerals and medical expenses for the victims in Pittsburgh?? Well. They’re not done yet. Look at this

They have increased their goal several times and exceeded it within hours. HOURS!!

Here is their latest update

They’re asking you to please donate to their other fund, to help the victims of the shooting in Kentucky. These people are beyond amazing. They give me hope for the future and restore my faith in humanity.

They haven’t reached their goal with this one yet. If you’re feeling compelled to donate, please donate to the Kentucky fund. Because of everything else going on, it hasn’t gotten nearly as much attention. But these two peoples lives were just as important. They were just as loved and they will be just as missed.

And because they haven’t gotten as much attention and their stories aren’t in the news as much, here’s their story. From the fund raiser.
