Fierce, bold, quick to anger and slow to forgive - he was the Queen’s biggest secret. But no matter how much she tried to hide it, it was destined to be revealed.
In this story King Viserys’ second son is not his son - but instead the outcome of his wife’s lust for the Rogue Prince. Aemond Targaryen never found his right place at court until he found out who he really was and became what he detested the most; a bastard.

I have finally updated two new chapters!

counterpoint: the targ dragons should have been destroyed, its their own incestuous fault that a coup would eventually happen, and finally, there are hundreds of years of precedents for succession already established in westeros (and the great council !)

I think it was a perfect plot device to rid westeros (and the world) of dragons. Grrm did not write the asoiaf lore in his usual gardener style but rather had this planned from the beginning.

As a writer and historian myself I often thought how it came to such a conflict. I know of the history of Matilda and Steven where Grrm got his inspiration for this from, its reasoning also stems from misogyny first and formost.

I have tried solving this conflict in writing before but it usually comes down in fixing Jaehaerys' rule. Had he married Rhaenys to Viserys this conflict never would have happened. But he did not, then Rhaenys was skipped over TWICE in a matter of succession claiming a woman and her decedents cannot claim the throne with male relatives alive (this happened in medieval france too and the law kept unchanged). Going back to medieval england, following a sucsession crisis an exception had been made and thus enabled a queen regnant. To take it from history: a predictment can be changed if it is made official. Now the question is werther Viserys naming Rhaenyra as his heir instead of Daemon was legitimate since it had been before the birth of any of his sons. After he married Alicent he never talked about this again, even after others had claimed the questionable birth of the heirs’ children.

Grrm wrote this family into this situation for a reason, he never gave Aemond or Daeron legit betrothals, same goes for Aegon the younger and Viserys. They could have seperated them into branch families (Targaryens of Dragonstone/Stormsend/Oldtown...), those princes would have made for good alliances but this was never the authors intesntion.

To come back to your argument, the Dance of the Dragons is the perfect take because it was written after a certain lore was established. It is there to serve a reason not to follow consequences. Logically, it would not have came to this if it was written in Grrm's normal style. Dragons had to vanish in order to appear once again as the final climax of A Game of Thrones, after their miracle birth through the last of her house the story could take place at all.

Also I’d like to add that it shows the horrors of war. The blacks did not win the war because Aegon became the third of his name, no one won because those who didn’t die were left traumatized. It should be taken as dark history that one should learn from.

i know he should be perfect for playing a multi-generational inbred prince but seeing matt smith as daemon really makes it impossible for me to watch
