Translation for the second illustration’s character roles:

Sousuke: Director “…” Rin: Actor “I will make you appear in this!” Makoto: Manager “Eh!? Even if you say that please don’t be so reluctant!” Haru: Character Design “This is the hero.” Rei: Cameraman “More…MORE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!” Nagisa: Painter “This color goes here, that one goes there…” Momo: Original Design “MOVE A LOT MOVEEEEE!!” Nitori: Animation “This line and that line should not be used. Ah, it curved!”

I WONDER WHAT THEY ARE WORKING ON…

Hi, sorry, I don’t mean to be rude and jump in with corrections but Rin’s (演出) means producer, not actor! In anime production, this often overlaps with the director’s role so I’m not sure what Rin does exactly.

Momo’s (原画) here means “key frames” (the …key frames of an animation that form the major “points” of the movement) and Nitori’s (動画) in animation studio terms is the “inbetweens” so the frames between the key frames which actually convey the movement from one to the next. (This post from Madhouse explains.)

Edit: just to add to this so I’m contributing something, here are the bottom comments translated — I’m sure I made mistakes too, so anyone feel free to correct:

Top Picture

I was told to draw whatever I liked, so I drew something that probably wouldn’t usually be requested. It’s an image like a scene of a cultural festival. I’m glad I could draw the innocent (?) underclassmen. …But I wish I could have made their eyelashes longer! - Ooda Shuu [That ? after innocent is his own and I’m not 100% sure how his name is read.]

Bottom Picture:

Since this is a book by the “creators”, going off of that, this is what it would be like if the eight from Free! made an anime!! I made Sousuke the director since he seems like he wouldn’t be able to do anything but I have a feeling the bonds he’d worked so hard to build would fall apart……! In anime production, there’s also still the script, the art. I’ll be very happy if, reading this book, you become even a little bit interested in the creator’s side of things. — Utsumi Hiroko (Made by: Utsumi Hiroko)
