Okay but what if botanist!Oikawa took home this weird, spiky, kinda ugly-looking plant as a pet project, just to see what it might turn into? He would water it and love it and talk to it all the time, and make sure it always sat in the best spot for sunlight. He would call it Iwa-chan because the texture of the leaves kind of looks and feels like little rocks (he likes to stroke the leaves while he tells it about his day). And what if that plant slowly grew into something Oikawa thought was beautiful and special and turned out to be surprisingly human-shaped, and what if it thought Oikawa was sort of wonderful in return (even if he did whine an awful lot of the time)?
