"Alright." Sapnap answers, keeping his gaze forward and his steps steady.
Dream clings onto him closer, burying his face at the crook of Sapnap's neck until the scent of smoke and ash lingers on his nose. Something about its familiarity always manages to calm him down.
"I love you too, by the way." Sapnap says, finally looking at him with the corner of his eyes. "In case you needed reminding."
"Thanks." He mummers.
"I needed it." He adds after a moment.
"Any time." Sapnap smiles in his half-mischievous way.
The sun is slowly setting, casting its golden light all around them, bathing the world in something almost magical in it's burning glow.
When the light touches Sapnap's face, it makes him look golden, otherworldly.
The quiet between doesn't last for long.
"Ya know, I think it must be exhausting to always be so brave." Sapnap finally says after a moment.
Dream lets out a quiet laugh. "I can't remember the last time I wasn't scared of something."
"But that's what makes you brave." Sapnap argues back with a furrow of his brows. There's a seriousness in his tone that has Dream's heart thundering inside of his chest.
"It takes a lot of courage to admit something like that, and to be able to pull off everything you've done despite it."
He means it, of course. He's never lied to him once, and Dream can always tell when he's being lied to.
So he leans into him, to his best friend, to his other half, fully communicating everything he wants to say without having to say anything out loud.
And Sapnap, on his part, understands and holds him close, not saying anything more as he continues to get them home.
