“Can you not see what you are doing? Are you blind to what they represent?”

I’ve been thinking about this quote from Star Trek TNG’s Redemption I. Gowron was talking about Klingons supporting the Duras family. I have similar thoughts when I encounter Trump supporters. Do they not see what he represents? Or do they see perfectly well what he represents - and they like it? I suspect it’s a mix of both. Either one is unsettling.
