Oh I have high hopes across the board. Andy Serkis seems to completely understand what made the previous film work and Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson seem super committed — which is what you need in a film series like this. I know it’s a weird/unpopular opinion but that first film wasn’t a great “film” and honestly fell apart if you thought about it long enough. But it was so much fun regardless! It made so many bonkers choices and stuck to them all and Tom Hardy grounded all of that? I mean it very seriously: That man deserves an Oscar for this performance. He made it make sense, be funny, cool, and interesting enough that we’re now at a sequel?

I really am not expecting “perfection” of any sort with these movies. Just a good time and lots of laugh and tons of fun “shippy” moments? (I’m already thrilled at those few minutes of domestic Symbrock. You can quote me on that in my eulogy.) But Serkis seems to get all that — as does the way it’s being marketed — so in a way, this movie is already inching towards perfect in my mind? And I definitely trust in Tom Hardy. The man gave us the lobster tank scene. I can’t wait to see what else he’s gotten up to in this one.

But yes! I feel very passionate about people being able to make and create because we all need an outlet and humans are creatures who want to do things like that. We make things and gift them to each other because we were thinking of the other person. That’s just such a lovely sentiment.

Re: talking to me, pull a Nike and just do it! I’m really not that scary. The only thing is I’m not the best at DMs right now on account of me just not being able to converse with people much lately. I can barely talk to my closest friends, so new friendships are really taking a hit. But I know talking to people can be scary and anonymity can be comforting. So if you don’t mind late replies and a bunch of unevenness, feel free to send me asks and I’ll do my best to answer those promptly!

Oh wow! Thank you so much Anon. It’s been a bit of a week on every front, and I just needed to decompress a bit. (My emotional and social battery has constantly been at the halfway mark before sliding all the way down to zero on a daily basis.)

But in any case, I am very small and very bi, and so sometimes I just get into a groove where I need to look at beautiful things and read very specific yearning-filled poetry/writing so I can recharge a bit. It’s all a bit dramatic and I can’t ever explain it, but seeing feelings expressed in these ways makes me feel at peace and better about life in general. Even as the world burns, people have always been making things and we’ll keep on making things, because it’s how we cope and make sense of the world.

(And yes it can be for fun and as a hobby without much thought and all that, which is all well and good and perfectly fine, but I always think about how so many of the greats struggled, and how even in their most dire or darkest hours they were compelled to make something. It’s maybe the most human quality of all; to want to express ourselves somehow — even if it’s wrapped in a sculpture or a painting or fic or memes or poetry. We want to say, “This is how I felt. This is how I feel. Please, please see that.”)

SAME!!! I really enjoyed how it actually had an angry queer teen with powers, which is so rare. Syd also had one of the few most relatable wardrobes I’ve ever seen for a teen girl. I would have worn all of that.

What’s really shitty is that they had a season 2, but sadly this fucking pandemic ended up getting it cancelled. (Even though it’s budget was on the lower end for a Netflix show — especially with such few episodes. I would give anything to trade in that awful racist orc movie from last year to bring it back.)

At least we had the sweet lesbian/dumb of ass friendship for what little time we did.

This is so late, but thank you so very much! It was one of the hardest and most difficult things I’ve ever written. But I’m very pleased I did so. I’ve always loved novels from the point of view of animals so it felt cool to have done it. Also I love Tip (RIP).
