All right, folks. DMs open if you need to talk, even if you don't know me. All we've got is each other. Read your history and you'll see, time and again, resistance and survival depend on community. If you have others you can depend on, stick with them with every bit of strength you have. It's cliché, it's overused, but "united we stand, divided we fall" has so much history supporting it. Even just in the history of this disaster of a country, we see centuries of people in community resisting the most gruesome, inhuman things.

It's wrong to think we won't come out of this unchanged. We will not come out unchanged. We will not come out unscathed. There will be scars. Some will be terrible, and they will forever change who we are. But if we stick together, we will survive.

Again, DMs are open. I've already completely dissociated all my feelings away so if you still have them then I'd like to help you process them.

Hi, since you are a shell, do corvids ever try to crack you open by dropping you in front of oncoming vehicles?

Hmm... I only get dropped when the kernel panics... and I don't know any corvids that use a shell like me. We've got a fox girl, a penguin, a lil devil guy, a lil green dragon kid, a chameleon...

Hey Linux fam, am I missing anyone?

Oh my goodness! How could I forget our crustacean and cetacean friends?

And there's a gopher but we're not on speaking terms

You surely can’t forget the Sun that gives the ecosystem the ability to live :3 (both in the ecological sense and the sense of networking that makes it possible to use the World Wide Web as we know it)

BSDs pioneered TCP/IP and the web was developed on a NeXT Cube. How does SunOS fit into it?

The original SunOS was based on 4.xBSD, and System V Release 4 (of which Solaris was the reference implementation) implemented both networking technologies from Sun and elements of BSD. Sun itself pioneered a lot of the technologies used internally by enterprises like NFS, ZFS, and others, in addition to their being commonplace as network appliances and web servers in ISPs, web hosts, and enterprises :3 (this is just a quick response I’m giving on my phone in a noisy room, but that’s the gist of things at least)

I'm familiar with all that history, yeah, I just don't see how SunOS specifically enabled the web in a way similar to what I mentioned above.

Would love to hear the full answer, though, I have grown to adore your insights :)

I guess it’s more the hardware (being marketed as network devices and having out of the box networking capabilities) and the focus on networking that Sun as a whole had (things like their slogan “The network is the computer,” the network appliances like the Javastation and the Sun Ray thin clients they sold, etc.) than the OS itself in a lot of ways, but despite calling myself “sunos-official,” I suppose I’m more a blog of Sun as a whole and that’s admittedly more what I was referring to in my response. So Sun may have supported the continued development of the web from more of a hardware infrastructure standpoint :3 (also I was being partly rhetorical because I wanted to make a Sun pun)

That does make a lot of sense, and as always you make such excellent points :) Particularly the point about the Sun Ray clients, they were everywhere right?

I would also be remiss if I didn't appreciate your pun. It was a good pun and well-considered!

@fish-shell has been forgotten in this list

I'd also mention krita (I think she's a robot mouse girl) and gimp (I think it's a dog).

hiiiiiiii i'm a corvid! a crow, to be precise

Then I stand corrected! We have at least one corvid.

wait why and how is raspbian a crow???

well a crow runs the account, and presumably a corvid could pick up a raspberry if it wanted to...

The crow who runs the account is a genuinely really cool, too :)

The tooling for the two languages I use regularly, Rust and Python, default to four spaces. Really surprised the number of tabs users though.
