So, Spirited came out last year. As of last night, I've seen the movie three times and listened to the soundtrack at least a dozen times. But last night was the first time I abruptly realized that this is a New Dream song...

It reminds me of the concept art drawn by Jin Kim!
Storyboard Eugene out here looking like a prep in a sweater vest.
I think I’ve said this before, but I literally can’t remember if I have or not, so here we go.
Know what part of Tangled is played for laughs and people giggle at all the time and actually bugs me a lot? “Your dream stinks. I was talking to her.”
Like... come on, what an assholeish thing to say! And yeah, I get that Hook Hand is abrasive and mean and even cruel, and he doesn’t like Eugene, but like... how dare you, sir? Every regular in that tavern is a ruffian, and you can tell by how people dress and act and where they hang out that they aren’t wealthy, and that they live hard lives. What the hell is wrong with dreaming about a life where you have enough money to not have to worry about survival and get to finally relax in peace? There is absolutely nothing wrong with Eugene’s original dream, other than that is was a lie he was telling himself and had been telling himself most of his life. But it’s not like anyone at the Snuggly Duckling really knew him, and knew that it was a lie. In all respects that they could see, it was a harmless dream.
Don’t shit on other people’s dreams.
I'm dying at how they're holding hands. 😍🥰
First physical birthday gift of the year!
I mainly wanted it for tbe Snuggly Duckling, because I have a LEGO Tower, and Rapunzel, Eugene and Pascal, and a LEGO Tangled swingset. But this is the first LEGO Snuggly Duckling!
in this post- i’m rlly confused about the gothel and eugene meeting here; like what is she telling him?, what are they agreeing to?, what’s happening in the next ones?

We have very little knowledge of what was going on in those earlier drafts of Tangled, but it looks to me like she approached him with intent to kill, but then got the idea to get him to agree to take Rapunzel to the kingdom (in exchange for something, we don’t know what, possibly some sort of cash reward that would allow him to achieve his pre-Rapunzel dreams) and basically take part in her capture and return to Gothel.
I get the impression that the Stabbingtons didn’t exist yet in this version, and so Gothel was orchestrating Eugene’s “betrayal” more directly.
Pedro Pascal is nearly 46 years old (his birthday is April 2nd).
Eugene Fitzherbert in Tangled (the movie) is 23. (His age is canonically set in the series.)
Rapunzel is 18.
Explain to me again how he’d make a good Eugene?
Eugene in Red/Purple with Long Hair
1 - 3 by Bill Perkins
4 - 8 by Paul Felix
In the Bill Perkins’ concept at that’s floating around, these two are really standing out for me. The top one, because it’s a familiar scene, but the mood is completely different than how it turned out in the movie. The bottom one... I feel like I could write an entire fic based around it. Eugene has found a quiet spot away from the fire where he can see the stars, and you can tell by the body language that this is him telling his backstory.
(It’s also interesting to note the outfit color differences. You can tell the bottom one came at a later stage in development, probably after they already dropped the Gothel-meeting-him-in-the-woods plotline.)
It’s also interesting to see that Max is already there at night in both these early concepts of the scene.

I am a monster. >:)
Do you think Disney doesn't use Eugene's real name because they don't like it as much as they like Flynn Rider?
No, I think they use Flynn Rider a) because that’s what he’s called by most people for most of the movie and b) because that’s his name in the credits. That means it’s his name in the script, and for however many years he was named Flynn/Eugene, everyone in production called him Flynn. Even Zachary Levi still habitually does sometimes.
