How are you? How's Auri now? Any new pets?
we’re great and i hope you all are too! she’s the sweetest, is absolutely wildly smart (even her doctor is blown away) & is at such a fun age. no new companion animals, though i miss caring for hospice dogs. our home’s energy level isn’t as suited for them as it once was (and i really wouldn’t have the time to devote to a fourth dog right now between a & the boys & work anyway). i plan to get back to it someday though!
How are you doing? How is your little family's health?
i’m doing really well! my heart is full and i am so deeply content. everyone is healthy (:
“The secret to happiness…be satisfied and be grateful.”
— Mitch Albom, Have a Little Faith
“The secret is to never lose sight of the simple, everyday miracles in life. Good food, literature, laughter, music, compelling conversation, nature, and art. Look for them in every day, and even when it feels like your whole world is unravelling, you will never be too far from a needle and thread.”

“If you don’t love your house you will not clean it; if you don’t love your house you will not paint it; if you don’t love it, you will not surround it with a beautiful garden, with a lotus pond. If you love yourself you will create a garden around yourself. You will try to grow your potential, you will try to bring out all that is in you to be expressed. If you love, you will go on showering yourself, you will go on nourishing yourself.” Osho
“Allow your life to be one big romantic experience, from the tenderness in how you wash your hair to the gratitude you hold for having the time and space to go to your local market and peacefully come home and prepare a healthy meal. Romance isn’t initiated by a lover. It’s most often in the little day-to-day details and a lover matches the frequency we already give to ourselves (and our cells).”

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.”

the queen of my heart forever and always. when i walked into the shelter in december of 2014, i just wanted to look at dogs to heal my heart after losing the two i had grown up with. but then i saw minnah shaking pressed into a corner in the last kennel on the right. when i learned of her history of abuse and neglect, and that her recent owner had just died in front of her, i knew we needed her as much as she needed us. from college to california and back, she has been deeply ingrained into every aspect of our lives since that day. i’ve adored dogs my entire life but minnah is the reason i’ve devoted myself to rescuing and rehabilitating them. everything i know we learned together. i get to do what i love everyday because of her. my best friend in every zip code, my rock as i navigated major life changes, my ambassador to lots of fosters, my first child. when we first got her she couldn’t walk down the street without lunging and snapping at everyone. over the last seven years she has transformed into a dog that trusts. her progress is my biggest source of pride. getting to be her mom has been the blessing of a lifetime. she was diagnosed with cancer several months ago and had major surgery to buy some time. yesterday we found out it spread and she would need a blood transfusion and splenectomy to possibly gain a few months. rather than put her through that, rus and i made the decision to let her rest. i know it was the right thing to do but i don’t think my heart has ever ripped open quite this much. the end of an era. there’s so much more to say but no words will ever be enough to describe the depth of my love for her.
run free moose. the deepest paw prints on my heart belong to you.
just two good boys havin’ a good day
“I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.”
