• The Realm of Hellfire where Endeavor, God of Fire, rules as King. Power hungry on a conquest to rule several realms, Endeavor waged centuries of wars on several kingdoms to expand his territory. Battle after battle he conquered, taking a wife—a descendant of the God of Ice, killing thousands, and not relenting until the fateful day he lost his firstborn son on the battlefield.
• The royal family of Hellfire remained, with Endeavor and his queen, Fuyumi the Crown Princess, and princes Dabi and Shouto.
• From an early age, the youngest prince Shouto was prodigal in wielding powers of ice and fire. Unlike his older siblings that drew power from their parents, Shouto’s perfect unison of the elements allowed him to use his powers in harmony. Seeing the potential in Shouto, Endeavor personally trained his youngest son, isolating him from his siblings.
• Although he was Crown Prince, Dabi—who was raised alongside Fuyumi—drew his fire powers from Endeavor. As Dabi got stronger, Endeavor got weaker.
• Fearing of losing his power and of Dabi becoming too strong, Endeavor sealed Dabi’s fire away. He scarred his son’s face, torso, and arms before dropping Dabi into the depths of Hellfire’s largest volcano, Enma.

• Shouto became Crown Prince after Dabi’s banishment.
• For centuries, Dabi wandered the bottom crevasses of Enma, bound in chains. It was a mystery to him how he even survived. Scorching, sweating, moving from rock to rock, Dabi waited. His fire was sealed, but it didn’t matter—he could still harness power as long as Endeavor was alive.
• Eventually, it was time. He had harnessed enough power to break through the chains, break through the seal. Dabi blasted his way up to Hellfire’s surface, dead set on usurping the throne.
• After hearing the news that Dabi broke free, Endeavor was enraged. His fears of losing his powers took in form of paranoia, knowing that Dabi was out for revenge. Neglecting his kingdom, Endeavor focused on assembling an army, leaving the rest of Hellfire to become a shitstorm.
• Hearing of Dabi’s encroachment on the castle, Endeavor called for the royal family to meet in his throne room. He sends Shouto out with his men following the meeting.
• Shouto meets Dabi at the castle gates. The youngest prince says nothing upon seeing his brother, taking a battle stance as Dabi greets him.

“Hello little brother, how nice of you to welcome me home. Im here to take back my crown, and to kill Dad of course.”

• The showdown begins. Matching hand to hand, fire to fire, they fight until Dabi gets rid of all of Endeavor’s men.
• It is then that Shouto slows his attacks… he’s been holding back the whole time anyway. He tries to encase Dabi in ice, yelling at him to stop.

“DABI STOP. IM NOT HERE TO KILL YOU. WILL YOU LISTEN TO ME FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE?!” “WHY WOULD I DO THAT SHOUTO? YOU WERE ALWAYS DAD’S FAVOURITE. AND YOU ALWAYS HAD MOTHER’S ATTENTION. IT WAS ALWAYS ME AND FUYUMI CAST ASIDE. WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOU WHEN HE CLEARLY SENT YOU TO STOP ME?!” “BECAUSE FUYUMI IS DEAD.” . . . “… What?” “She’s dead brother! Father accused Fuyumi of setting you free and killed her right before my eyes. He’s even taken Mother as prisoner.”

• The words ring through his head senselessly as Dabi is frozen in disbelief. His sister. His beloved sister. D e a d.
• Shouto retells the meeting in the throne room. A psychotic Endeavor burning his daughter alive, imprisoning his wife as an accomplice of Fuyumi’s, and blackmailing Shouto to be his obedient son at the cost of his mother’s life.
• The castle gates burn ablaze in red and orange, smoke and ash. Dead bodies surround the two brothers standing silent on the battlefield.
• And then Dabi erupts fire in anger.
• Shouto watches… then speaks quietly.

“I never wanted the crown anyway. It was yours to begin with. The bastard old man is far so gone he’s left the whole realm in ruins.” “…” “Even if he’s psycho, you alone can’t defeat him. Your powers are tied to him anyway.” “… Shouto…” “I just want to get Mom back.”

• And so he extends a hand.
• Dabi takes it.
