Love your story of Aldrics Letter Brigade! What folklore/mythology did you draw inspiration from creating Jardinia?
Thanks! :) As you might expect, the skeleton on which all the other folklore in this story builds on is Robin Hood. The rest of the specifics come by playing mental hop-skotch with mythological associations across western mythological tropes.
For example, the Golden Apple in the story came from 1) Robin Hood is famous for his marksmanship >> 2) Archery >> 3) William Tell + Apple story >> 4) Magic Apples in the canon of western mythos >> 5) Understand that Golden Apples are a recurring motif in western mythos and mean various things in different stories >> 6) Make up my own specific thing for the story that could feasibly fit into the western canon if Jardinia was a real country with its own historical/cultural traditions.
And the same goes for the Enchanted Forest, the royal families and their aristocratic lines, the major characters themselves, and so on!
Readers familiar with Saint for Rent or my NewsPrints series probably know that I've always enjoyed history as a subject, so this project has really been a cheeky way for me to utilize what I know in a semi-fantasy setting without getting bogged down by the specifics of dates and hard facts.
