Lars (Lachen, or Lach’n) Jonsson is something of a legend in Swedish progressive rock, especially in the genre of Rock-In-Opposition. This album is a reissue of his first disc, and it is as filled with weird, jagged piano-based avant-prog.
Grimény are a progressive/post-rock power trio from Germany who play a tight, heavy, not-so-metally form of post-rock. Dense, deep, mellow, and rather good listening.
This was an absolutely pleasant surprise! Our friends at áMARXE have published a Swedish band called Actionfredag who keep the spirit of the Canterbury Sound alive in the modern age. The rhythms are tight, time changes about, and the production is punchy. This is a good day to be a prog-head.
Former Mott The Hoople member Morgan Fisher never stopped making great music. This is a recent release from August of this year intended to help fund Morgan Salon, his studio in Japan. It is, indeed, a worthy cause.

I stumbled across Sumner McKane on a Reddit post recently, and decided to give this album a listen. It’s a nice combination of instrumental AOR rock, post-rock, and prog tinged slightly with a few psychedelic elements hear and there. Easy listening.

The loops Richard Pinhas (once leader of the legendary Heldon) are in full force, but this has a more beat-laden flavor to it. It’s spacious, relatively heavy in parts, but a really pleasant listen besides.
Gunesh were from Turkmenistan and had one of the greatest drummers and percussionists to ever beat the skins in Rishad Shafi, who passed on a few years ago. This holds itself admirably compared to western fusion bands. Worth your time!

Castles In Space are a label whom I just stumbled into over the past few days, and I’m liking what I’m hearing from them a lot. This particular piece of hauntology comes from Jonathan Sharp, a composer who is, like me, a child of the 70’s. He split his time between Cumbria and London, and the music reflects his memories of those years long gone by.
