Hi! Friendly Asp here, with a link to a new resource I have put on Dreamwidth. This contains the crowdsourced reference links that have built up in my Discord server over the years, all in a public community now so that they can be accessed by people not in my circle!

- we should all be checking our voting status periodically leading up to an election, whether it's Federal or State. Especially check your registration status in the weeks and days leading up to submitting your ballot. There are also ways to see if your ballot has been counted after submission. Check your county/state election website or the ballot itself for instructions.

There are deadlines for registering to vote and they do vary from State to State, so this isn't something to procrastinate on, just FYI! Check here for deadlines listed by State/Territory. This does not mean you need to wait until the deadline to register!

Hey you know what sucks is predatory companies that make you enter your email address so that they can harass and advertise to you to access resources you might need to keep track of expenses after a disaster. So, uh, fuck them.

If you need to track the cost of things like hotel stays, pet kenneling, medical care, etc. after a disaster you can use this worksheet.

If you need to create an inventory of your home for an insurance claim (and if you'd like to do this to keep someplace safe before a disaster) you can use this worksheet (two pages, instructions on the first page, worksheet on the second).

And here's a FEMA document with numbers for disaster relief groups and a checklist of documents that you may need to have replaced as well as a description of what to do if you had cash in your home that was destroyed and can possibly be replaced.

Anyway, my sister-in-law would like me to remind everyone that speculative fiction magazine Strange Horizons (and its multilingual sibling magazine, Samovar) are 100% free to read, are always looking for stories by and about marginalized people (all flavors of queer/non-straight/non-cis and intersex, POC, disabled, etc forever), and pay their authors, artists, and translators professional rates for stories that are available to read for free online. They are especially proud to focus on content about a particular identity whenever bigots get up in arms about their inclusion (or, as was the case with the Sad/Rabid Puppies and the Hugos a few years back, have completely misunderstood what the magazine and its staff stand for).
