some of you have never had an unpopular female character as a hyperfixation and been forced to scroll through pages upon pages of bad hot takes about how terrible her character is while trying to peruse her tag for actual fanworks and it shows
love language: nicknames 💞
SHARON CARTER in THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER (2021)
Also its funny how (mostly) women in the mcu fandom are like "we need more women characters!!" And sharon carter comes along and y'all were okay with her until cacw when she kissed steve (which makes sense bc its canon and the comics which is where this whole franchise is based off of) because y'all were stucky or steggy shippers or whatever. And now that steggy is canon and steve is gone y'all are still hating on her because of one unconfirmed rumor about her and bucky getting together in tfatws because "she needs to stay away from bucky". And then y'all are like "well she shouldn't just be a love interest in the show" when she was never just a love interest to begin with. And then there's the whole bullying her actress (emily vancamp) because of a role she plays. I just wanna know... When are y'all gonna be ready to confront that internalized misogyny and stop treating women characters like shit bc they're dating your white fav man??? Because i thought y'all were all about "women rights!" and feminism but from all of the stuff that's happened it seems like y'all only support certain woman characters. And its even worse when sharon ain't did a damn thing that was "problematic" or whatever. She was just chillin tryna help out her friends. And yeah kevin fiege and some other marvel higher ups messed up her character but that doesn't mean that y'all should to.
Someone pointed out that Peggy only had one brother, but he died during the war, and didn’t have any children:
So that really got me thinking, and I decided to do a Carter family tree, with what I could find online
Oh my god, I was thinking about this recently I literally hate this family tree so much. It makes no sense, I swear. Because I think the tree actually makes Sharon Peggy’s great-granddaughter?
So the only way she’s Peggy’s great-niece, and keeps the last name Carter is to be Michael’s great-granddaughter, except the wiki has him as her great-uncle?
And Peggy and Michael don’t have another sibling? Even though that’s the only way this should work?
(Although…for Harrison and Amanda to be great-great uncle and aunt…I’m pretty sure that might actually just be impossible? I’m not sure though)
And if we ignore the weird great-uncle thing, then Peggy is only Sharon’s great-aunt if she’s descended from a sibling of Peggy’s husband. Steve doesn’t have siblings (much as I dislike the time travel thing, this is still true) and we don’t know about Daniel, but regardless, then Sharon’s last name wouldn’t be Carter? Unless there was some strange coincidence where the family’s name changed to Carter via marriage? Or if Peggy married someone who actually had the same last name as her?
This whole family tree is the worst to figure out send help
My headcanon is there’s another brother who wasn’t mentioned. Maybe he was way younger and away at school.
Uh, yeah, this family tree doesn’t make sense on any level, because a) that makes Sharon her grandchild, not niece, and b) Sharon’s last name in that scenario wouldn’t be Carter.
After TWS, which never actually gave a last name for Sharon, I just assumed that Sharon was an honorary niece, the child of some friend or co-worker of Peggy’s. Lots of families include kids calling unrelated people “aunt so&so” or “uncle so&so”; we had a couple of those when I was a kid. It’s not that uncommon.
But now we know that her last name is Carter – which means she has to be descended through the male line of the family, at least without some complicated surname shenaniganry going on – and Peggy does have a brother. At this point I’m going with, either Michael already had a child by the time he died (which really isn’t out of the question; we didn’t even hear about Michael ‘til S2, so there could be a widow and kid back in England that Peggy was never close to) or Michael isn’t dead, which the never-produced S3 seemed to be leading up to, and had children later in life.
Although, honestly, @peonymoss‘s idea of Peggy having another brother, a much-younger sibling she’s not close to who was presumably too young for the war, is completely plausible as well. For some characters this wouldn’t really work; we would have to have heard about it. But Peggy just isn’t family-oriented in that way. I can fully believe that Peggy has any number of siblings or cousins squirreled away in England that she simply doesn’t talk to enough for it to have come up in the show, any of whom could be Sharon’s grandfather or great-grandfather.
I love all this commentary! But also... maybe it's a coincidence that Sharon and Peggy have the last name Carter? Peggy befriended another agent named Carter, or Angie married someone whose last name is Carter, and Peggy and this person teasingly called each other siblings? I have a relatively common last name and I call my friends who coincidentally have that last name my cousins, just because it's fun. And then this person's grandchild is Sharon Carter, who grew up calling Peggy Aunt Peggy in the way some cultures have children call their parents' friends Aunt and Uncle.
Anthony Mackie really said “fuck those sexist haters.”
I can't believe how politely Emily van Camp told Kevin Feige to go fuck himself on stage.
KEVIN: "where has Sharon Carter been in the mcu?"
EMILY: "you tell me, Kevin."
Fun fact: Making beard jokes about Sharon Carter is now illegal, and if you do it, Captain America comes to your house and beats you up

Sam throws his head back and laughs gleefully as he’s held from behind by Sharon, who looks smilingly back at Steve hugging her and resting his head on her shoulder. Sam is wearing a light purple v-neck, Sharon wears a turquoise shirt, and Steve is in a grey leather jacket. Red cartoon hearts float above their heads.] A late Samtember token for birbwilson ! Still working on the accompanying ficlet <3
She could have been an interesting character…
I mean…she already is an interesting character??
- She grew up listening to Peggy’s stories of Captain America and his Howling Commandos. She watched her aunt build SHIELD from the ground up and got to see firsthand how her aunt deftly handled diplomacy and espionage in an age where women were not wanted in either. Having such a strong woman as a role model inspires her to go into the family business, even if she does so without her parents’ blessing.
- Even though she was only a rookie agent at the time, she was given the distinction of guarding Captain America as he adjusts to the 21st Century. She acts as a friendly face to him whenever he comes and goes, and she also gently turns him down when he puts himself out there and asks her out. She does so because he only knows her as Nurse Kate, not Sharon Carter, and she doesn’t want to lie to him anymore than she has to.
- Conversely, in CW she doesn’t take any of his crap and asserts that she was only doing her job when guarding him and won’t let him make her feel guilty for doing so. She is unapologetic and won’t let him walk over her.
- When Hydra is revealed she doesn’t hesitate for a moment to fight back against them, even though she had just learned that her aunt’s legacy was effectively a lie. She would rather SHIELD burn to the ground than have Hydra pollute it. She puts herself in the line of fire against Rumlow and protects a fellow agent, putting her own life at risk as she does so.
- Once SHIELD falls, instead of moping around and feeling sorry for herself, she immediately enlists with the CIA because she knows she is a talented agent with a lot to offer and she won’t let the faults of SHIELD stop her from doing so.
- Within the two years she works for the CIA, she proves herself such a gifted and competent agent that she joins an elite task force and is seemingly the second-in-command to its leader, Everett Ross.
- She goes against her superior’s orders and passes along crucial intel to Steve so that he can save Bucky’s life in Romania because the police had orders to kill on sight. In Berlin, she lets Steve and Sam listen in to Bucky’s interrogation and is pivotal in realizing that all of it had been a ploy from Zemo to get time alone with Bucky. She then directs the two to Bucky’s location.
- She holds her own in hand-to-hand combat against the Winter Soldier, lasting just as long as two highly trained Avengers. How much more badass can you get?
- She smuggles out Steve’s and Sam’s gear, allowing them to fight at the airport and later in Siberia. She does this knowing that the CIA will come after her, making her a fugitive just like Team Cap. She does this because she knows it is the right thing to do, and she did it without expecting anything in return from Steve.
And she did all of that, with maybe 15 minutes of screen time spread across two movies. Now, would I have loved to have more Sharon Carter in the MCU to watch her develop even further? Hell yeah! But I don’t know how you can call her uninteresting when her appearances were packed with character development and moments that showed her to be a strong, independent woman with a strong moral compass, who kicks ass and takes names. Steve Rogers liking her is just a bonus to how awesome she already is by herself.

↳ Sharon Carter
Like he said… Captain’s orders. You picked the wrong side, Agent. Depends on where you’re standing.
Sharon looks up when she hears the soft whirr of Natasha's descend in the darkness above her, but she doesn't see her until she's close enough to kiss. One kiss upside down, and one sitting side by side, legs dangling over the drop. "Hi," Natasha says, voice quiet. They're not meant to be up in the church tower, but neither of them is ready for sleep. Below them, the city sleeps, no an idea of what almost happened. Sharon grasps Natasha's hand, kisses her bandaged knuckles. "Hi," she replies.
SHARON KISSING NAT’S BANDAGED KNUCKLES IM LOSING MY SHIT ENTIRELY THAT’S SUCH A GOOD IMAGE IM GONNA CRY I WANNA DRAW THAT SO BAD
