What's your son like?

Now this is a question!

My son’s name is David Ricardo Arturo Martinez (D-RAM, as I called him once when he was five minutes old and before my wife told me never to call him that again) and he’s the best little kid in the entire universe.

He turned three a few months ago. He’s super into baseball, his favorite animal is frogs, his first word was ‘mine’ and I miss him every day.

He thinks I’m super cool because I’m flying a spaceship, and he and his Mom send me video messages just about every day. The last one he sent me featured him singing Como la Flor in my wife’s car. Basically he’s the coolest kid ever (cooler than me, even) and I’m so proud.

David is a Cubs fan. And he’s definitely cooler than his dad.

Saturn Above (_The Martian_, NC-17)

Chapters: 1/1

Fandom: The Martian, all media types

Rating: NC-17, thoroughly

PairingParticipants: The Ares III Crew/Mark Watney (All right: Melissa Lewis/Rick Martinez/Alex Vogel/Chris Beck/Beth Johanssen/Mark Watney)

Summary: Okay, starting over with what actually happened, which was the most amazing birthday present I've ever gotten.

Content Advisory: Vague spoilers for the book/movie. Mostly sex. Lots of sex.

All Thanks To: I know it was @dsudis that I saw someone's comment that there should be a "Zero-G gang bang with a gooey touch-starved Mark Watney at the center." I didn't manage to include the zero-G, but the rest is in there!

Martinez: Dr. Shields says I need to write personal messages to each of the crew. She says it’ll keep me tethered to humanity. I think it’s bullshit. But hey, it’s an order. With you, I can be blunt. If I die, I need you to check on my parents. They’ll want to hear about our time on Mars firsthand. I’ll need you to do that. It won’t be easy talking to a couple about their dead son. It’s a lot to ask; that’s why I’m asking you. I’d tell you you’re my best friend and stuff, but it would be lame. I’m not giving up. Just planning for every outcome. It’s what I do.

BWJ headcanon

A couple of months post rescue and still being on their way to Earth, Martinez and Vogel decides to wake the others up cause they are being late, (except for Lewis who has already finished breakfast and doing her chores). They also decide to take a Go Pro with them to record everything because this kind of things are always so much fun.

So, they decide to start with Beth who is always the hardest to wake up. They run into her room and start yelling. Beth sits up in her bed, almost naked.  And then Chris sits up too. And then Mark.

The five crew members can only stare at each other. Finally Vogel grips Martinez by his arms and shoves Martinez out of the room to give the others their privacy and says “See you at breakfast”.

(They never talk about it with each other and nobody told Commander Lewis. That is, until Vogel lends his Go Pro to Lewis, before realizing he never deleted the recording.)

Someone has to say it

In the middle of lunch (Something Chowder and crackers, but Mark's hungry), Martinez has to say, "You colonized Mars?" in tones of fucking disbelief. "You actually said "I colonized Mars"?"

"Hell, yeah!" Mark snaps, remembering wheelbarrows of red soil and  getting blown up while making water. "I grew crops, I--"

"You announced your colonialist ambitions to the entire damn planet, man," Martinez points out, gesturing with his fork. "No wonder so much shit happened to you. It was just the native Mars resistance. Self-government for all!"

Mark pauses, thinking about it, then lets the cracker he tosses at Rick's laughing face speak for itself.
