"why do people conflate top/bottom and Dom/sub" because we haven't socially destigmatized kink. that's literally it.

if you say you're topping your boyfriend when you push him around in the bedroom you're being cool and quirky and using slang to describe your antics. if you do the same thing and say you're domming him you must be a seriously freaky person. that's why people use top to mean Dom and bottom to mean sub. they know even if we allow the nice clean gays with their fun bedroom terms into our society, we should never ever be like Those People who spend significant amounts of time and energy learning how to have the kind of sex so many of us clumsily imitate in our bedrooms.

the problem is that kink activities are socially acceptable and even expected, but having any awareness of the terminology or safe ways to play surrounding them is heavily stigmatized. kink anti-intellectualism is rampant among people of every political orientation because of how badly our society has poisoned us. so we can't even say Dom or sub to refer to ourselves. it's a symptom of that problem.

#i see a lot of sex-negative things that describe choking as being the quintessential kink' activity #meanwhile there are websites ABOUT kink with information on doing it safely #and the one I looked at straight-up said 'we can't recommend/condone doing choking because it's too risky there's no way to eliminate the #risk of potentially kiling someone like that'

#sex negativity whether radfem or evangelical or whatever #always looks like 'you shouldn't NEED to know information about this act #because you shouldn't want it in the first place #and if you just do Normal Morally Correct Sex #that is self explanatory ergo there is not any need for education ever

#there's this idea shared by the two groups that if something appears ambiguous or complicated #it's because you're seeing it in a totally wrong way and understanding something the right way removes all ambiguity #e.g. just only have 'normal' sex and all this nonsense about safewords and aftercare is irrelevant

#because it's 'just being nice to your partner' which everyone automatically knows how to do

#'just don't have sex where there is a risk of seriously hurting them if something goes wrong

#..honestly anti-kink radfems are bizarre when you think about it #because all kink really is- is just giving and receiving pleasure in ways that are different than socially typical

#the thing it's being contrasted with is penetrative sex that involves a vagina and a penis

Why do radfems have this mindset that if they screech loudly enough at submissive kinky women they'll be like "oh you're right this IS abuse and not something I deliberately asked for and negotiated with my partner beforehand with a strict outline of what is and isn't ok AND with a single word either one of us can make it all stop instantly, thank you so much, you ovarian crusader"? If someone were to interrupt my scene I'd be fucking pissed, especially if it was for some fucking political agenda.

Just a few of the stories my great aunt told me about women in the 60s:

1) A woman she worked with at the hospital who had a baby with one of the ambulance drivers. When work found out they fired her (he kept his job). She tried to self-abort with a knitting needle.

2) The sister of one of her neighbours who wasn’t able to rent a room because she was a ‘fallen woman’.

3) A girl who got sent to a convent house and scrubbed floors until the day she gave birth. Her baby was given up for adoption without her consent.

4) Girls who had babies with priests.

5) Women who were on their fifth, sixth, seventh child, who had been pregnant for the best part of a decade, begging for sterilisation because their husbands wouldn’t wear a condom.

Banning abortion has never ever stopped it from happening. It’s just meant more stigma, more prejudice, more risks and more deaths.

In 1962, my mother was going thru a divorce, got pregnant and knew this fact would be used to deny her divorce (they used to do that, in case you didn’t know).  

My mother was given a “shot”; she lived 3 blocks from the doctor.   He never told her what it was, likely an “overdose” of progesterone, which is how they used to “induce menstruation” in a hurry (i.e. abortion off the books).  She was about 7-8 weeks by her estimation.  He said, GO STRAIGHT HOME, go to bed and stay there.  She walked fast, but nearly collapsed at the curb and my grandmother went out to guide her into the house.  She went to bed, stayed there and bled steadily and heavily for 3-4 days.  She said it was like being very very sick, headaches, nausea, vomiting… and then, gone.  

She never let me forget this and took me to my first NARAL meeting when I was 15 yrs old.  And here I am today, in my 50s–and I still remember my grandmother’s scary account; my mother swaying, literally, at the curb, and nearly falling, under the strength of that one shot.  

How did she get the doctor to do it? She told him, “If you don’t, I will do it myself”–and if you knew my mother, you knew she meant it.  She would have.  After all, lots of women she knew had.  

This is what they want to take us all back to, the fucking middle ages.  Please remember.  

The cost of denying women abortions is women’s lives. Nothing “Pro life” about it.
