Let’s take a Mental Health Minute.

Life’s hard.  Maybe now is the time to take a deep breath and let cute animals from The Latest Kate whisper affirmations in our ear.  So if you’d like your own Thera-pet card, head on over to our Google Form and let us know.  (The form will be open for at least a few days and will close when I feel up to closing it.)

We have sent out all of the prizes for our Anniversary Giveaway, and we sent out a huge batch of postcards this week.  We are working on adding some new members to the directory and updating member profiles.  You can keep up with our progress on our Trello page.

On a personal note, please send some good thoughts our way.  My dad is in the hospital; it’s nothing life-threatening, but possibly life-altering.  Thanks in advance.  ❤

The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange: Postcard D-53

Fandom: Lord of the Rings

Message:

Hello fellow fan!
Here’s a postcard of Frodo writing his book for you.  I really love Frodo, for his wiseness, friendship and strength.  When I was 7 years old, it was the first time I read Lord of the Rings, and I’ve been in love ever since.  Anyway, stay safe, and let the light of Elbereth guide you in these trying times ♥
- Anna

Response from recipient:

What a beautiful card with such a lovely message! Thank you, Anna, so much! I first read LOTR at 8, and it changed my life.

The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange: Postcard A-61

Fandom: Star Trek: The Next Generation

Message:

Geordi,
Following our conversation about the difficulties of early twentieth-century communication, I was intrigued by Earth correspondence traditions. Did you know that the ship’s computer holds over 8 million twentieth-century postcard scans? I viewed them and analysed their greetings. Most indicated a location the sender enjoyed visiting coupled with the phrase, “Wish you were here!”, often expressed to a friend or loved one. I chose to replicate this new design as I enjoy being on board the Enterprise. Not only that, I often wish you were with me, even without a postcard prompting the sentiment.
Best wishes, Data

We especially want to reach out to lurkers. We recognize that lurkers often make up an enormous part of fandom and lurk for a variety of reasons. We welcome all lurkers to join and lurk about our member directory. Should something inspire you to un-lurk for a moment, you can do that and then go back to hiding in the void. We don’t mind at all!

We also recognize that many people may be experiencing (sometimes greater) feelings of isolation during the pandemic. We think our postcard exchange is useful because 1.) it allows for low-stress interaction and 2.) it gives us something physical to hold onto/squee over/smile about.

* Note: National Coming Out day is for all of us in the LGBTQ+ community.  The MFPE would like to apologize for only having rainbow stickers at this time; to our bisexual, asexual, and trans guys and gals and enby pals, we see you and we love you!  The rainbow flag IS for all of us, but some of these stickers are clearly not, so please accept our apologies.
