Vibrant orange stilbite lining skinny tubular voids that I believe might be related to some sort of marine fossil situation. This locality is well known for these bright, deeply saturated crystal pockets, which often have impossibly tiny, water clear quartz flowers grown on top. I have some great examples of those, which I'll post next. Stilbite on quartz on... Blue? Formed in very cool polygonal voids in a single network of pockets in a quarry in Polk county. This site, shown to me a couple months back by @pnw_rocktography and @unearthed.minerals, includes a huge range of mineralization that satisfied the collecting curiosity of us and @birdweek, @ilk.nature and @tanerschiller all at different spots within the quarry. I didn't realize how much I loved this stuff til I got home, and now I need to go get more. Golden stilbite and associated clay minerals from a local Clackamas County spot along the Willamette River collected months ago with @pnw_rocktography and @unearthed.minerals. These pockets are nice, but the really cool and scary looking material comes in smaller pockets in the same host rock, as this stuff is riddled with wildly varying formations, minerals and colors. Finally, a post about the chabazite: this fantastic combo of calcite on chabazite features large, clear pseudo-cubic crystals with deceptively smooth faces, nearly all of which actually have incredible etching and patterns, many even visible to the naked eye. This first shot is through a handheld loupe, but @pnw_rocktography has taken some really excellent micro shots which you can see on his feed and on @unearthed.minerals. I just love the look of this stuff, and I'm hoping they went to find more today while I recover from my booster shot yesterday. Rainer calcite, crystal faces edition: all the crystal faces on these combos have really cool textures, which resemble melting record keeper formations on the calcite. The majority also have interior fracturing which, because of calcite's perfect cleavage, makes it look like dogtooth phantoms inside each crystal. For all I know, they could actually be phantoms, but since they reflect rainbows depending on the angle you view them at, I assume it's internal fractures. One of my spot cleaning guns lost pressure somehow, and now it's stuck on what seems to be the perfect strength to clean harder zeolites and other specimens in the field! I brought a battery along on my recent trip, and I'm probably gonna take it everywhere now. Check this stilbite as found, which I figured was decomposed beyond recognition. Just a few passes with the gun turned it into an absolute stunner on its bed of heulandite, with wild bicoloration and ample size and terminations.
