WOOOO!!! I just found a missing rock (in 6 main pieces) that was feared lost forever after I moved, and couldn't find it after I set up the collection in the new house. @pnw_rocktography and @unearthed.minerals have the other two pieces, as I was with them when I found it. It's one of my favorite finds, even though it's still dirty and I'm not entirely sure what its composition is. Found in a very unique area, with gorgeous jaspers, agates, quartz, calcite, cinnabar and many other crazy things all around. I've found a ton of related material, though this is the best. One of my favorite areas, and it'll be off limits for years due to wildfires in 2020. So glad I found this in the bottom of a random bucket I threw a bunch of stuff in when I moved. Too many photos of this sort of low grade jasper with pockets of quartz. Now that I see the last photo, it seems like there/s some woodgrain in there, so maybe it’s petrified wood? I dunno.

Selection of limited finds from a trip up the Clackamas yesterday to visit some usual spots and maybe find new ones with @c_rackelman. These are mostly headed to the polishing wheels, hoping to get some cabs out of this common opal, agate and petrified wood. Some pieces have really nice dendrites and color, along with a little agate geode and a strange botryoidal pocket with green crystal growth on the back. Found a couple pieces that go together, even! Making some simple sign holders the other day for my cafe, and decided to chop up a chunk of petrified wood I found a few years ago in the Willamette River. The results are so sick, from the grain, color and the unexpected crystal pocket that was cut perfectly in half. This stuff took such a good polish, and you can see from the unpolished side how mostly unimpressive the raw wood is. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos on a trip into Washington with @kkatieclarkk @pnw_rocktography @c_rackelman and @ilk.nature, but we had a fantastic time in the forest where I found this great little pocket of quartz in a seam of calcite lined with white opal. The honey calcite rhombs perched on top are just perfect.
