This has been my destress doodle that I have been working to death for weeks

Riza can be a little ugly, as a treat

one of the things that makes me insane *affectionate* about fmab is how the deaths of all the homunculi are super meta, especially for those who are defeated by humans (wrath is killed by scar; pride is defeated by edward). but i think my fav one to think about is mustang vs lust. it could mean so many things….. that he’s the primary character in the series who does battle and defeat the sin of lust every day—or that the character he loves is being directly threatened and needs protection, and his love for her is what enables him to win. he’s directly juxtaposed to havoc, who is shown as having a weakness to women to a point that it gets in the way of his job. mustang, on the other hand, is shown as successfully prioritizing his professional duty over any temptation for lust he has for his subordinate by not seeking to dissolve those lines. additionally, his love for her also helps him stay in control, as he knows that giving in to lust would also jeopardize her career. duty + love = lust defeated

and that makes her dying lines (“I love how cold and focused your eyes are. I look forward to the day when those eyes will be wide in agony. It’s coming, it’s coming”) so *chef’s kiss*. i think for a long time I thought that it was foreshadowing to him going blind—which it still might be—but when I think about it, I can’t help but wonder if it’s more so referencing when the fact of his love (and the simultaneous prioritizing of his duty) leads to riza’s life being endangered to a point that he’s thinking about committing human transmutation. i mean, which looks more like “eyes wide in agony”?

now compare that to:

again, it might refer to both—but it’s not like lust knew he’d go blind one day. i think she was definitely more likely referring to some future moment in which his duel priorities that make him immune to lust—love and duty—would finally come clashing against each other, as all duel priorities eventually must.
