I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I am once again in angstville over the fact that Steve says this rallying speech...
And then he's immediately made to face the biggest price Hydra can exact from him.
Like a mocking challenge, Hydra sent Bucky out to face Steve - the world and your precious freedom, for the price of your friend.
Because they know Steve is altruistic. He'd put his life on the line in a blink. He proved himself by jumping on a grenade and that was how he became Captain America.
But there is a bigger price Hydra could ask - would he be willing to put someone else at risk? In Steve's speech, he asked, he didn't demand. He said he was willing to do it alone, but he hoped that the goodness of humans meant he wouldn't.
This time, Hydra is forcing him to make that choice. Would he be willing to sacrifice someone else -- and not just anyone, but someone intimately a part of his life and identity prior to going into the ice, for his precious freedom?
Like a mocking challenge, Hydra sent Bucky to ask, is this the price you're willing to pay?
