Ok what if chrysalis had a xenomorph mouth 👀
Let’s see if I don’t regret those posts leaving my drafts.
I think there is some parallelism in the way Anya and Curly talk to Jimmy. Anya is obviously afraid of Jimmy and is trying to placate him to the best of her ability, to get him to do things and not lash out. And Curly? Maybe a bit of the same.
I love hate that Jimmy predicted how part of the fandom would react to Curly.
So I've noticed that more people seem to be able to pick up on Anya's rape than seem to pick up on Jimmy's verbal abuse of Curly even though we witness the verbal abuse 1st hand while the rape is hinted at.
I've also noticed the fandom seems to notice that Anya is doing a Fawn response around Jimmy but very few seem to notice Curly is doing the same.

Its not polite to stare sir
Not to be an apologist. But.
I too hate that Curly first response to finding out what Jimmy did to Anya was to go and try to talk thing out with Jimmy.
But.
I honestly feel like he did that because he genuinely freaked out. I think If it was “regular thing” for Jimmy to harass female employees, Curly wouldn’t act so panicky and erratic.
I feel like it was the first time something like this ever happened (or it was the first time Curly found out about it).
And yeah. I’m speaking from the similar but somewhat different experience, but when you find out that your friend, a person you generally trusted and knew for years, did something utterly despicable it hits you like a ton of bricks in the face. It sends you slowly and painfully trough 5 stages of grief. And good luck getting trough stages of denial and bargaining.
And I feel like when Curly reached Jimmy he was at bargaining stage. That’s why he was saying like “we will get trough this” and stuff.
(I also saw how enabling works in circles of men. They don’t panic, don’t worry when their “bro” harass women. They don’t feel sorry towards the victim. They only worry when there’s some sort of punishment on the horizon.)
So yeah. Curly should’ve throw Jimmy into the airlock here and there. He didn’t. He tried to fix the situation in a way that would not be possible. It was stupid.
But it also was very well written, very human behaviour (at it worst).
P.S. also I’m a generally a dumbass so if I missed any details or misread something, feel free to correct me in the comments. 💕
blessed be the person on tiktok who talked about curly being used to jimmy verbally abusing him; curly doing damage control (his first question being whether jimmy is mad and then being the first to deal with him because he knows how); curly being a victim of emotional abuse/manipulation cause it is NOT normal for your "friend" to openly show jealousy and discontent at your every success; curly finding it hard to leave cause that's how those relationships work
Demon Teacher
Anya is constantly taking agency for herself behind the scenes and between them and it really shows how the game plays with perspective.
She takes the gun and hides it, preemptively thwarting Jimmy’s attempts to use it on her or anyone else. She tells him she’s pregnant and that Curly knows, likely so he stops menacing her. She was calculating the likelihood of reaching the backup medicine for a while to make sure it would even work before suggesting it. She puts her cot closer to the Polle statue because it acts as an alert when triggered.
Anya is constantly doing something to better the situation for herself and make it easier and it’s so easy to overlook in Jimmy’s perspective cause it all just makes it harder for him.
Okay, I'm just gonna say it. Saying "This abuse victim is partially responsible for their abuser attempting to murder them" is wild! And saying "Because this abuse victim failed another abuse victim they are just as bad as the murdering rapist that physically, emotionally, verbally, medically abused them, canabalized them, and forced them to eat their own leg." is even wilder! Like ya'll know this is just victim blaming, right?
Also by this logic Anya is also as bad as Jimmy! She enabled Curly's physical and medical abuse. Also unlike Curly it wasn't through inaction. Anya asked her rapist to provide medical care to her nonverbal patient and then left them in a room alone together. There were two other guys she could have asked instead. The rapist had also spoken to her about wanting to kill the patient and she had witnessed at least one instance of verbal abuse from the rapist to the patient(Curly's birthday party). And yet she still chose to ask her rapist to perform medical care multiple times.
Also it should be noted that taking needed medication from patients for personal use is a form of medical abuse. So yeah when Anya took all of the remaining pain meds she might have committed medical abuse against Curly. So if Curly is just as bad as Jimmy there's no way that doesn't apply to Anya too!
Seriously the fandom has fallen into the "good/bad victim" dichotomy which is extremely damaging to victims. Anya has been labeled the "good" victim so her flaws are diminished, ignored, or justified. Like I've seen people argue that Anya enabled Jimmy to abuse Curly as revenge and acted like that was a good thing instead of Anya being as bad as Jimmy.
Meanwhile Curly has been labeled the "bad victim". This means Curly is denied victimhood. Instead Curly gets victim blamed (Curly's at fault for his own attempted murder) and his abuse is called "deserved", "karma", and "punishment". His abuse is mostly talked about as metaphor for other people (seriously guys the unborn baby 🤨). When Curly's abuse is talked about there's always a disclaimer: "not to defend Curly", "this doesn't excuse Curly", "CURLY IS NOT INNOCENT" which might as well be saying "this victim is a bad victim/not a worthy victim". Curly's also been equated with his abuser sometimes even being said to be worse than the abusive rapist that ate Curly's leg. Also I'm pretty sure Curly's "bad victim" status is also contributing to the ablism around Curly's disability.
In conclusion stop victim blaming Curly please.
Daisuke my beloved.
I got so endeared to him. I wish people talked more about him besides his death. It's so interesting how he sticks out of the crew like a sore thumb. The way he dresses himself, the way he talks, the way he's significantly younger and less experienced than the others. The way he's very noticably the only asian person onboard. He's trying his best to be helpful, to measure up to everyone else, but he continuously fails. The trip wasn't meant to accommodate him. He's a last minute addition. He didn't even want to be on the Tulpar. He just isn't supposed to be there.
You wouldn't think tragedies like what happened with the Tulpar would happen to people like him.
