This scene is crazy bc it’s obviously supposed to be a callback to kk1 with the daniel/ali/johnny scene at the country club but like. For starters, Johnny sexually harassed/assaulted Ali in that scene which is something the writers have lowkey tried to retcon and water down, so to reference it now, in the final season of a show that’s supposed to be about Johnny’s “redemption”, is an insane choice. But also if I have to watch Kwon or literally any man force himself onto Tory in anyway. I am going to have to start maiming and killing

it's always so fascinating watching shows where the writers/showrunners have written themselves into a corner vis a vis tone, so the majority of the story will be "semi-lighthearted melodrama with some moments of deeper emotional or more intense brushstrokes" and then there will be one character who's Going Through The Horrors of a completely different incredibly tragic narrative

The thing that gets me is that. There is no happy ending for Tory Nichols. She’s 17 and her mom is dead. She’ll win the Sekai Taikai or she’ll lose, she’ll make a life for herself or she won’t, she’ll spend the next decade of her life taking care of her little brother or he’ll get shunted into the foster care system. And even if the Sugar Family Larussos somehow swoop in to save the day and everything works out happily ever after. She’ll still be 17 and her mother will still be dead.

It’s not that I think Tory rejoining Cobra Kai or reaching out to Kreese was unrealistic given her emotional state, but it does still feel unnecessary. Like they only wrote it in to leave off on a cliffhanger twist.

But also logistically…how does that even work? Does she abandon her little brother to the foster care system and just dip to Korea, despite her entire motivation the last few seasons being getting her life back on track to take care of him? How does she even leave the country as a minor? I know I’m asking a lot from a show who has a wanted escaped convict fly back and forth to three different continents without ever being caught and extradited, but like. Make it make sense

Also Johnny projecting his grief about his mom, who died when he was in his mid 30s, onto Tory, a literal child, was not the big Johnny win the writers seemed to think it was. I’m not saying Johnny being an adult made such a horrible loss any less terrible or painful, but Daniel and Amanda were right for stopping that fight. Tory is just a kid who probably hadn’t eaten or slept in 24 hours. She was not in the right frame of mind to be doing anything right then, and Daniel and Amanda were acting like responsible adults. Tory didn’t need to fight Sam, she needed to be taken care of. Which is also why everyone just letting her walk away felt so insane and out of character. Like they all find out Tory’s mom died and then they just…stand there and crown Robby and Sam winners?? I know they wanted to have her run into Kreese’s arms but it just felt so contrived and made everyone else in that scene seem completely heartless and devoid of any shred of humanity
