fucking australia’s trying to get everyone to link their government id to their social media accounts else you cant use them anymore, the actual fuck is wrong with this country

please, actually, get fucking mad over this, the entirety of australia basically just banned all social media for anyone who doesnt want to give up their privacy to the government, there was no vote on this, no nothing, they just went ahead and fucking passed this ridiculously privy law and barely anybody’s talking about it the actual fuck

okay so to actually explain what exactly is happening, it’s an age thing. theyve used ‘protect the children’ and ‘let kids be kids’ as a weapon again. anyone under 16 is banned from social media, but to enforce this they have openly admitted everyone will need to link their government id to their social media. this whole ‘protect the kids’ thing was a very obvious trojan horse for getting ppl to give up their privacy.

and yknow, that alone is a very shitty law even without the whole surrendering your private information to the government thing.

theyve made outside uninhabitable, there’s nowhere left to go. public areas have degenerated, theyve turned hanging out into a crime with loitering, streets feel unwalkable sometimes, parents are more wary of letting their kids walk around on their own than they used to be, and now theyre trying to ban one of the main ways kids manage to distract themselves inside the house.

when i was 15 i was depressed and lonely, unable to leave the house very far, no friends, nobody. the one place that helped me feel less alone was online communities. i wouldve killed myself if it werent for the support i recieved on there. and now theyre trying to ban that for future generations, in a world that hates them being both outside and inside.

and even still, this is still a fucking trojan horse to get you to give up your privacy.

never forget the universal rule of the order of things: People Will Not Read It

signs at stores? émail? menu ?? instruction ? post online ? caption with andswer to question ? group hand outs ??? street sign ??? no. The Written Word Is The Enemy

We put a great big sign that said “ID REQUIRED” directly at head level on the door of the bar. You literally cannot open the door without seeing the sign. And you wouldn’t believe the percentage of people who were shocked shocked I say that all of a sudden an ID? was required? When did that start??

No, your oc isn't too cringe or a Mary sue. Yes, it's completely fine that it looks similar to your other ocs. Yes it's completely fine that it looks similar to a Canon character design. No it's not uncreative. No the design isn't shitty. No the backstory doesn't have to make perfect sense or be all figured out. Yes it can be self indulgent or unrealistic or overly sappy. No you don't draw your favorite character too much. Yes you can flip flop between developing whatever characters you want. No you don't have to keep the parts of your character that you don't like or that make you uncomfortable just for the sake of consistency, realism or whatever else

Got off a video call with my grandma. Asked her what sort of American foods she was enjoying (my dad flew her in from Korea and she's staying with him in Phoenix rn). She said most of the food isn't too impressive but she's addicted to a specific candy, and when she held up a bag of Werther's Originals I started howling

i think its pathetic that journalists and even some casual speakers call twitter "X" now. weak fish behaviour. you dont have to play along

i honestly don't think a movie has impacted the way my family speaks more than "O Brother Where Art Thou."

Bob always liked to ask the cats, "is you is or is you ain't my constituency?"

if anything goes missing, it "R-U-N-N-O-F-T."

an of course:

oh, see at chez ninja-bitch "dapper dan man" is for when you can't find your fave brand, bonus if it's a personal care product. usually soap here.

we also have a lot of affection for "we thought you was a toad" and very little occasion to use it. EXCEPT, in spring and summer when frogs and toads mate in our yard. and even then, it's a sort of meta-joke where we talk about Pete out there trying to get laid.

I regularly use "well ain't this place a geographical oddity, two weeks from everywhere!" when facing literally any kind of delay

You absolute queen, my family LOVES this movie and NOBODY else I’ve met knows about it! Literally last week I went on a ten minute monologue to convince my kids’ piano teacher to go watch it. Anytime we have to leave with expedience we tell each other it’s time to r-u-n-n-o-f-t. When we see cows on the road we are compelled to announce to each other “oh George, not the livestock”. I have sung pretty much every song off the album as a lullaby for my children. It is one of the defining movies of my childhood. That and The Three Amigos. Literally such a gem of a movie I could gush FOREVER

no, but listen. it isn't even really "loosely" based on the Odyssey. it is a pitch-perfect retelling for the time period in which it's set. right down to everett grooming his hair with pomade (odysseus has several plot relevant instances of washing/being annointed with olive oil).

and the soundtrack SLAPS.

thanks to all the dawntrail criticism, i’m rapidly learning that what other people think of as “pacing issues,” i think of as necessary time spent getting acquainted with a new environment, its history and the folks that live there. what they felt was a slog, i felt was the equivalent of going on vacation and submersing yourself in rich, previously unknown cultures.

so basically what i mean to say is i have a true adventurer’s spirit and everyone who gripes about this expansion’s pacing is a loser. (SORT OF a joke. but also not really. but also really. but also n)

My favourite sentence in the article: “Those interested in acquiring Jones’ media company had submitted their final offers to federal court-appointed trustee Christopher Murray, who was tasked with picking a best bid, but not necessarily the highest.”

That suggests to me that Mr Murray had the option of choosing the funniest bid, and by gum he took it.

They did indeed choose the funniest bid. Murray consulted with the families.

They skipped offers millions of dollars in higher offers, that might've resulted in Jones's allies getting control of some or all of it, and said, NOPE. Let's hand this to the people who really know how to do Fake News.

Christopher Murray, acknowledged that The Onion did not have the highest bid but said it was a better deal overall because some of the Sandy Hook families agreed to forgo a portion of the sale proceeds to pay Jones’ other creditors. First United American Companies, a business affiliated with one of Jones’ product-selling websites, submitted the only other bid.

...also let's give them a huge dataset of contact info for the most gullible and easily-outraged people on the planet.

This is a slow fandom zone

None of that "Oh no they bomb-dropped all the episodes in a week 1 month ago, I'm late!" "The tag hasn't been active all week is the fandom dead?" "I only got a hundred shares the first hour no one cares about my art"

Slow down

Take a deep breath and slow down

Fandom is YOU. And me and everyone. If we doodle stick figures for a show that ended 30 years ago we aren't "late" or "doing too little", we're playing dolls in our own time and having fun with works of art that mean a lot to us

You can literally watch and engage with something that aired in 2004 as if it aired yesterday

If the tag hasn't been active for 14 months guess what? If YOU post there, it isn't dead. Literally you can talk about anything you want whenever you want there is no weird law against watching things that people aren't actively talk about

Let's be deranged about stories together

What's everyone's favourite flowers that aren't like. The normal ones. Like everyone's a fan of roses and sunflowers what's a more niche one. One you don't get in gift sets. Mine's sweet peas

What's great about this is that Jones is out of a job entirely because of it.

See, if some sympathetic right wing media organization had won, Jones likely would have been hired on to keep doing exactly what he's been doing. It's what he hoped for, and likely was the motivation behind a lot of the buyers (since Infowars only really has value under its original mission if you keep Alex Jones around).

Now since The Onion bought it, they have no need for Alex Jones for whatever parody or comedy site eventually appears in January. He's out of a job. And they made a big enough offer where it didn't break the company apart, so he couldn't even snatch up some pieces.

Now will some right wing asshole hire him still? Probably. But it's without any of the things he's used to build his awful career. He's starting from scratch, and that takes away a lot of the stuff he might have brought to the table. So where ever he ends up, it'll probably be for a much smaller paycheck than he would have gotten at a rebooted Infowars.

And I think that's great.
