Ohh this is an interesting one...

I didn't really write any "sketchy" characters in my first book STARFISH, everybody was pretty chill and mostly honest. In my second book, The Dragon Prince's Consort, I think as far as "sketchiness" goes I'd have to pick Fang.

Born into extreme poverty, little Lienfang Shan grew up on hunger and unpaid electric bills. Her parents Meilin and Charles did their absolute best, but living in the Federation (the part of the galaxy considered 'human territory) where the mere thought of socialism makes your grandma's pearls clutch their pearls means that any kind of aid is either hard to come by or still not enough. And after Charlie got sick and Meilin got hurt on the job, Fang had to give up on school and start working to support her parents. So she knows a thing or two about talking her way out of trouble as well as standing up to the local hustlers and pimps.

Which is exactly why she's so damn good at pretending to be Prince Valen Drassian's Lady Courtesan - she's got that bold-as-brass confidence that comes from surviving the streets, the ability to hold her head up and act like she's the Queen of Everything in the face of trouble (Valen's oldest brother Tias). She and Valen are effectively conning the Drassian Empire into thinking she's someone important so he can get the Federation Envoy to agree to his terms. Valen has legitimacy on his side - his father is the freaking Dragon Emperor - but Fang has the cunning and street-sense to see through everyone's bullshit and think several steps ahead of Tias. It was her idea to act like she and Valen are horns-over-tail in LOVE with each other, to pretend that Tias's dirty trick was all intentional and that despite their different species humans and Drass can work together and coexist (and there's also the revenge angle). So while I wouldn't say she's "sketchy" I would say that Fang is definitely a mastermind of deception and she steps into her role as Lady Courtesan with great enthusiasm and skill.

I also have a complete book, STARFISH, and a short story "PET" available if you're into aliens/monsters, romance, scifi-romance, giant aliens with strange bits, and sexy stories with actual plots. Also, I've made something of a personal commitment to write POC main characters/love interests, mainly because I'm tired of seeing my own face on everything and I don't find most stories about people who look like me to be very interesting. And while the stories I currently offer are hetero, I will be straying from that format in the future as I learn and grow as a writer and a person.
